Simple one for you. Any player currently playing right now. Ignore price and whether its realistic or not.

hard question as what am i replacing?

if it is gerrard the holding midfielder then i would have 3 picks. Matic, Pogba or javi martinez. As martinez is crocked i think matic would be choice 1.

If it is gerrard the inspiration then it'd be messi

If it is a young gerrard from say 2005-2009 then I think almost a no 10 is required. the shout here is perhaps a silva or a fabregas

    Fabregas or Silva

Hazard and Ramsay are not too bad either...in the realm of fantasy: Messi, Ronaldo

    This.

Or are we replacing the maturity and experience he brings to the team.

The younger Gerrard's have been replaced by a combination of Coutinho, Henderson and Sterling.

I say we fill the other midfield spots we need to fill and try add that experience and maturity at the same time. I say sign both Khedira and Milner.

Henderson, Khedira, Milner, Coutinho, Can, Allen, Lucas, Lallana, Sterling, Markovic. Good options across the whole midfield, top to bottom.

That can be done cheaply to, keeping funds free for GK, CB and ST (Cech, Hoewedes and Lacazete).

Replacing Gerrard as a box to box midfielder - Pogba, Gundogan

    Attacking mid - Mateo Kovacic

Holding/Def Mid - Carvalho, Wanyama, Diego Reyes, Kondogbia, Lars Bender

Think this should be realistic player....

pjanic would be my realistic one. Seriously think he's a classy player and only 24.

Main dream world pogba is going to be a player like viera who can also score goals. Add real steel to the midfield. Although he has a stupid run up for his penalties.

The 2 best midfield players this season in world football are Modric and Xabi Alonso IMO. Pogba though because of his age would probably be the best option.

However I don't think any are realistic, so you'll probably get someone like Fabian Delph

which is fair enough but thats not replacing gerrard it is making do as a mid table club isn't it ;)

no there are many gerrard iterations cos he has played just about everywhere from right wing, right back, centre midfield, box to box, no 10, attacking cm in a three. holding midfield

I can't think of many who've done all that. It's actually like realistically asking utd.. actually who would you replace wayne rooney with as the astonishing stat that he's either scored or been involved with 96 of utds last 100 goals or something ridiculous like that

for me I'd want to look to the future here. I would not want another "star ego" par se. I would want a top top midfielder. thats why i said matic. he is a bloody beast in the prem. Pogba might just also be that. These are not going to smash 30 yard shot in to change the course of games and such but they are what LFC desperately needs... and i stick to the it need not be realistic guideline.

LFc needs a CB to replace carragher... and hyppia for that matter.... now gerrard and also suarez up top needs to be replaced.

One of the problems Liverpool have is persuading a top central midfield player to join them. You had a lot of money in the summer, and you struggled to lure any real top players, despite having Champions League football. You couldn't even get Alexis Sanchez despite Suarez going the other way. That should have been an easy opportunity to do some sort of cash plus Sanchez deal for Suarez. But Sanchez wasn't interested.

Next season your unlikely to have Champions League, so it's going to be tough to persuade any top midfielders.

I think Rodgers is kind of the problem, when you had Benitez atleast he had the pulling power in Europe having won La Liga with Valencia so he could get the likes of Torres to join. Who was a big in Europe at the time. With Rodgers the top players are wondering who on earth is this guy? What has he won?

Sami Kheidera you have an outside chance of getting if you make the CL, but even then I'd be suprised if you could get him.

I think your suffering like we did with Moyes in the transfer market. You need a big name manager that top players will want to work with

A little twist to it now.

Restrict it to Premier League players now. Anyone that jumps out?

Nobody at yoonited "jumps out" tbf, the sooperdooper stars at OT can't even reach top spot in the league despite playing much fewer games than those in Europe.

If I say di Maria, Rooney or Carrick, do I win the prize?

To cover everything Gerrard did/has done? No. Various bits of it - players like Matic, Fabregas, Toure (wouldn't want him now, or if so, only short-term) have already been mentioned. If we're looking more realistic, Schneiderlin, Song or Milner would probably be about the best bets.
