The Premier League have a won a long legal battle to close online streaming site Wiziwig.

The website was one of the world's leading streaming services providing illegal access to thousands of games each week.

That was until the Premier League, alongside other sports rights holders, stepped in to close the site down on January 1.

Director of Commercial Operations, at NetNames Stuart Fuller said: “This case highlights the difficulty faced by the Premier League, which has a constant battle to constantly remove the many streaming websites shared among football fans.

"The cost of accessing live coverage continues to rise, with media companies such as Sky and BT Sports looking to get a return on their investments in the TV rights, resulting in football fans being unable to afford live coverage at home and ultimately turning to unofficial streaming sites.

"What’s more, the rise in usage of social media enables fans to share stream details very quickly. As one is taken down, another replaces it just as quickly."

Fuller also warned fans of the dangers of streaming illegal content from a variety of other sites, which could see them legally culpable.

“Supporters need to be aware of the legal consequences of sharing copyrighted content," he added. "The Premier League also needs to be wary of the risks streaming sites pose to their intellectual property.

"Links to infringing content can spread rapidly and divert revenue away from official channels. High profile cases such as this one help to warn consumers of the legal risks when sharing content online.

"However, ultimately the responsibility falls to businesses and organisations to monitor the web for Intellectual Property infringements so that illegal sites can be taken down.”

Well if Sky TV, the premier league & all it's member clubs weren't infested to the core with sheer greed we might not have that problem.
    **** Sky & **** the premier league.

Can't see the point of this. Why close just wiziwig when there's loads of others streaming?

Daft init, I know Wiziwig got more hits than the rest put together but people will just go elsewhere, like we have.

It's about time Club's had the rights to their own matches. I'd happily pay my club for an away match season streaming card. In this day and age with the technology there should be a legal way for a fan to see every match their team plays and for the club to profit in some way from their loyalty.

It's just like the drug industry. The FA and their little addiction to SKY have allowed a black market to creep in and for criminals to profit. It's become too difficult to police. If the FA took it out of the criminals hands to enable everyone to get their club fix legally, funded by advertising to keep cost down to the consumer and with high quality streams. Then the the criminals would no longer maintain their profit margins. But it's supply and demand weather it's legal or illegal the football Junky will get their fix.

This is a great idea tbf... I'd pay to be able to watch all games in HD, I'd wager a hell of a lot of people would?
