I know outside this forum, there are still people who back Wenger 100% despite everything that is happening. What about on here? Who on here actually still backs the French dinosaur?

    Not 100% no

I think he has some serious flaws, that he just doesn't seem to address.

I'm not opposed to replacing him, I just want to make sure we do it properly rather than on the back of fan frustration and end up appointing a Turkey.

People say things can't get any worse under Wenger, but that is BS. Even though we are not performing anywhere near the standard expected at Arsenal, there is still a long way to fall should we make a hash of replacing him.

There's a whole thread dedicated to criticising him with over a thousand posts in it.

I'll continue to back him until he leaves the club. But I think the club should be thinking about when that will be and how we will go about approaching it.

I personally think he has signed his last contract with us and will retire at the end of his current deal.

With the money available I'd expect him to be able to bring in the odd trophy and at least have a decent go at the league. This season so far it's not gone our way but there's still plenty left to play for and I think a United front is the way to make our aims this season possible.

Fans need to accept that Wenger isn't going to be getting the boot mid-season and that getti on his back just makes things difficult for him and the team. It adds unnecessary pressure. If the fans want to have a protest in the summer, when the season is finished, by all means I think people should let there feelings be known, but for now I think we all need to get over it and get behind the manager and team.

Wenger has his flaws, and they can be really ****ing irritating! But he also has great strengths and knows the club inside out. If we are going to replace him it needs to be done the right way and with the right calibre of manager. People where saying we should of got rid of wenger and got Martinez in, how's he getting on at Everton this season?

It isn't simple replacing a top manager who has been at the club a long time and I hope it's a process that is done with great consideration and patience to get the right man in. I'd rather keep wenger at the helm until the right person is available.

I do get really annoyed with Wenger, but I'm happy to see where we stand at the end of the season and then pass judgement. Last season was a good one and there's still time to salvage something this season.

Some of the names mentioned over the last few season to replace Wenger:

    Sam Alladyce
    Owen Coyle
    Roberto Martinez
    Harry Redknapp

and there are Everton fans on BBC 5 Live now slating Martinez for not being adaptable, being too stubborn, not setting up the team to take into account the oppostion, playing players out of position .... sound familiar ?

Like someone already said, whilst he remains our manager, I will back him to a certain extent. However will not shed a tear were he to leave.

    I back him ;)

To be honest, there's not much to do at this stage. A change would probably put your top 4 chances at more risk than it is now but ultimately I think Wenger has to walk after this season, you look as far away from winning the league as you were when you were losing top players, not buying them. Yesterday you should've been celebrating us beating Chelsea as much as we were, your fully fit first 11 is up there with the best in the league. Southampton have given lost of good sides a run for their money so I don't think there's much in yesterday's result but it's an accumulation of just doing enough to get by from season to season that should see Wenger go.

Whilst the abuse Wenger's getting might be harsh, I have a weird respect for those doing it, it's the only way to get the board, and Wenger's, attention after years of quiet grumbling has seen no change.

Surely the self-styled best run club in England knows when and where to replace its manager

how i love Chavski and Spuds fans coming here and stating we should be like them and change their manager every season, or Manure fans stating we should sack our manager mid-season like how they got rid of Moyes.

as the OP says "are there still people backing Wenger" and the simple answer is YES

if AW was to go at end of season who realistically would replace him ?

it seems Klopp is not so ****ing brilliant as he thought, nor is Martinez [2 of the managers tipped to replace AW]

Martin O Neil and Sven Goran Erickson as well.

Even last year there were several Arsenal fans on here claiming Brendan Rodgers to be superior to Wenger.

As I have said on here several times only an 'Elite' Manager will give us any improvement on Wenger...And there's not very many of those about.

Subjective. Easy to make statements like this when they can't be proven.

lf you are only going to accept hard fact, take a look at the stats for managers over the last 10 years and provide a list of all these superior managers that will be a shoe in and offer an improvement over Wenger.

That's not 'hard facts'. That's unfairly comparing managers from different scenarios. All that would happen is I'd create a list and you'd disagree with most of them being better than Wenger. Pointless.

We could start by listing attributes and then matching managers against them I suppose?

    1. Availability
    2. EPL experience
    3. CL experience

Feel free to add more and then we can start comparing the buggers :)

So to be an improvement on Wenger, they'd need EPL experience? Eh?

You're changing your story anyway. Originally you just said 'only an elite manager would be better than Wenger'. Now you're saying only a manager who's available and has EPL and CL experience.

Managers off the top of my head who I would have more confidence in than Wenger (there are probably more if I looked up a list):
    • Guardiola
    • Mourinho
    • Klopp
    • Van Gaal
    • Conte
    • Pellegrini
    • Garcia
    • Ancelotti
    • Emery
    • Simeone
    • Hiddink
    • Low
    • Bielsa

But the best managers on that list aren't available - there's no way LvG is going to leave a new job, we'll never get Pep, Mourinho or Low even if we had a ridiculous amount of money to tempt them with. I can't see Simone or Pellegrini leaving any time soon. It's debatable if Bielsa or Emery are better than Wenger (though I suppose we are here to debate...)

But that wasn't the question set. It was simply 'who could do a better job than Wenger'.

And anyway, managers become available for big clubs. Pussy clubs give up before they've begun saying players and managers aren't available. Get out there and poach someone for god's sake. We have ridiculous amounts of money, we're not a tinpot outfit. We're a top 8 revenue club without a top 8 manager.
