Ah - you're on the 10,000 Steps programme?

I should have guessed - that programme was devised by my old alma mater, CQ University. The school I was teaching at at the time was one of the 'pilot schools' - not only did it help the kids at the school, but quite a few of us older ones partially melted too...

How far do they reckon 10000 steps would actually be?

I guess that would be a bit of a variable, based on age/leg length etc. :)
The issue it concentrated on was more one of level of movement rather than distance involved. The kids and teachers at my school were all provided with ****meters and were asked to wear them all day - at and outside of school. The school took and recorded step readings on a daily basis (a good way of spending the final half hour of each day) and awarded certificates for achieving set milestones. Teachers were asked to take their classes for a walk around the school cricket oval once a day - most kids elected to jog around for at least two laps just to 'get their numbers up'. They were also encouraged to walk to & from school - which had the added bonus of cutting down traffic at the school gates morning and afternoon...

Ooh is that a thing? i have always targetted 10,000 steps but most months don't make it on average so this year my goal is to do an average of 10,000 steps every day per month for every month of the year, if that makes sense! lol. 10,000 steps distance-wise often depends on the type of step...running i get more steps in so travel further, walking i don't go so far..so it's somewhere between 4-5 miles i think Dan :)

Morning all, overnight frost here, but it is starting to thaw. French classes start again today and I hope that our teacher breaks us in gently. One of our number left the road in his car at the beginning of December, went through a hedge into a field, rolled the car three times with it coming to a halt on it's roof. He was lucky to be uninjured seeing as he is over 80. He was waiting for the insurance to pay up as the car was not that young and was considered a write off, While he waits he has to have lifts from neighbours to do his shopping as the bus service just doesn't exist anymore.

Have a good day whatever you intend to do. <ok>
