I took my nephew & son on Sunday... I was in the S.West upper. I started song after song (or tried to)... I had a bloke and woman behind me continually moaning to the people they were with... Saying "is there any need". I took great delight in starting the Jimmy Saville chant (it took about 5 attempts)... Just to piss them off. Like you say we can ALL strive to get the atmosphere to be loud and positive. I get sick of telling my young un that 'back in my day' the atmosphere was like West Brom game of last season every single game.
I have to say that the people next to me in the SE Corner never moan much, but it is hard work at times getting many people to join in the songs which me and my lads try and get going by joining in with the small group in South Stand which represents our so-called singing section..
You can't pick and choose who you support, just like how you cant pick and choose how people around you behave.
Are you saying that our fans are making a mass conscious choice not to vocally support the team? Because in my experience most people enjoy a loud boisterous atmosphere than a quiet one, but this does require people to get the atmosphere going which at this present time is failing. The way the team is set up at the moment does not help mind, but I have been brought up as an old school supporter who tries to back the team regardless.
I think it's a bizarre decision to have the "family section" right next to the noisy part of the South Stand, often the only part of the ground to make any noise at all. Think the families and kiddies should be moved to the East Stand, and the whole South Stand should be a dedicated singing section. It doesn't help that the stewards keep telling everyone to sit down just for trying to back the team. I remember against Man United early in the season when we went a goal down, the lads in the South Stand were standing up singing "sing your heart out for the lads" and they got told to sit down. Pretty poor fare.
Football audiences arent always the same. They change over time. Alienating fellow fans certainly is not the way to go about changing things.
In what, way, shape or form are fellow fans being alienated? I'm just stating what I believe to be fact in that the atmosphere is as flat as a fart for most of our home games that I firmly believe is detrimental to our club..
No, you're being critical of the fans while also wanting them to conform to your idea of how a fan should be.
I call it expressing an opinion on a message board...You feel different and are therefore expressing a different opinion to mine which I except..
