I know a lot of people hate American Football, but I have been following the Bengals for a few years & they're a Bit like Hull City, hot & cold, win the games they are expected to lose & vice versa. Today is play off against Indianapolis. Losing at half time & don't have a good record of games on TV, sound familiar? Anyway just thought I'd keep anyone interested in the American Tigers up to date.
Remember rooting for them when they got pipped in the Superbowl by the 49ers - a game most notable for a horrendous injury to Bengals defender Tim Krumrie, his studs caught in the astroturf but his leg, knee and ankle all kept moving, a sickening sight as they replayed it several times.
All four of our offspring, and their respective spouses (where applicable) follow them fanatically. I think the game (like baseball) is a complete waste of time. If you record a typical complete game, then replay it fast-forwarding through all the stoppages, you're left with about 11 minutes of actual action. I'll watch replays of some of the long throws and catches, but that's about it. And they have the nerve to call it "football". Hmmph!
Lol I love Baseball and NFL. Following them religiously. Funny you say that Bengals Tiger because to our Yank friends "soccer" is perhaps 2x 45 minutes of non stop action but with only 2/3 goals per game on average, is easily incredibly boring, their ADD kicks in and they need their fair share of scoring. I don't expect most on here to understand or like U.S sports but I think there's a protective layer where people can't see past certain aspects of their games, like ad breaks and stoppage.Once you do get used to it I think they're great sports. But there are far more exciting endings to games than in our football. baseball is probably the most boring with hockey but I've loved since I was a kid and visited the U.S, I also play the sport which helps.
PS, they lost (hammered, even), and there will now be several hours of analysis and excuses, interspersed between weather forecast. But ne' mind, eh? The new season of Downton Abbey starts tonight!
I always shut them up about it being "boring" because the scores are "low" by pointing out that if each goal were assigned, say, seven "points" (with extra points for corners, etc.), our points totals per game would typically be higher than theirs. American "sport" is just an excuse, after all, to drink fizzy-pop "beer" and stuff hotdogs down yer neck! By the way, we LOVE living here (dual citizenship) and would never want to live back in Eng-guh-lund. One reason is that we get to watch almost EVERY Marty Targers game on live TV, with proper English commentary anarl!
I think the bullshit around US sports is just a produce of the society not the sports themselves. They didn't create the rules of the game with ad breaks and commercial profit in the head. After watching us this afternoon, I'll take tonight's Cowboys/Detroit game over it for entertainment value.
I didn't think Citeh vs Arse was a particularly boring game ... just disappointing for us. And you don't get to laugh at the US coaches like we do at Arse ****er!
Dallas Cowboys' black and white striped kits are great, aren't they? ****e officials. Detroit robbed.
