With us in two cup competitions and top of the table and a huge fixture list mounting,do you think additional players are required now. Personally think it is very important that we do,however it is a fine balancing act without upsetting the tight squad we have. We need a couple of strikers,a midfield general to relieve wade.and a goal keeper. What we don't want is blow out, burn out, and injurys to stop our quest for the title and wembley final in the jpt. SC has got a massive job here,i hope he already is on the pulse regards some quality arriving.
Goalkeeper - not so important as Fielding is now on form, could do with a good deputy maybe but you can use emergency loan for keepers. Midfield General - we need someone to fill Wades boots next season and as you said fill in for him sometimes this season but I'm confident with Todd Kane I think he will improve even more. Strikers - Matt Smith is starting to score, but he was brought to be a old fashioned forward to hold up for Agard and Freeman to run onto, is now getting fitter but I've only seen him recently against Yeovil so would like to keep my option open on him. I would like to see a left sided defender to challenge Williams. We have the right sided one and Central in Osbourne. But I would like to see a jack in the box striker. I like Agard he works well but his confidence is shot at the moment, would like us to be searching for someone like that.
Yep i agree with you ROD,but he needs to bring quality in,we do not want to wait for burnout or injury. To say there is no panic,i think that is a smoke screen.
Quick striker, one more midfielder, one more left sided defender and a 6 ft 5 goalkeeper who is good at shot stopping and coming for crosses Will we get any of these? Nope. I'll just settle for Wes Burns back from his loan then.
Yes we do need additional players despite Wize's protestations. No one is panicking, just sounding a note of caution, but we've all been down this road before with disastrous consequences is the message that people are trying to get across. We have already seen the season take its toll on Wilbs and it only needs Smith to be recalled or for Agard to be out for a few games and we'll be right in the **** striker wise. Let Burns have his season at Oxford, he will come back a better player. What we need is some experience and cover in key areas. The job Beckford is doing for PNE in place of the injured Garner is a case in point and whilst Smith is doing a blinding job for us, we don't have a Man City sized squad to cope with significant losses of certain players
I've voted yes, but it is just that - reinforcements We have an excellent team, but a very small squad, so a couple of quality additions are needed especially as we are still battling in 3 competitions
Yes we could do with another two or three bodies. Left sided back three? We have Williams, Cunningham and possibly Bryan. But using Bryan there takes away attacking options. Cunningham is good going forward but not so strong as a defender. So a left sided defender is one. Assuming Kane stays with us, he and/or Wagstaff are cover for Little. Pack covers K Smith. I would go for Sears as attacking midfield cover for Elliott and Freeman. If we can keep Smith he will offer alternative for Wilbs. We really do need cover/competition for Agard. A young striker with pace is my preferred option but I hope Burns will do I this next season. Thus a loan of an experienced striker would be good. But who and from which club, I haven't a clue. Where does JET fit? I cannot answer that. Should any incoming players be permanent signings or loans? Again I don't know, BUT we must be careful not to undermine the great team spirit within the squad.
As I said earlier in the season I still think we're a team short of something, but figuring out exactly what that is could be a difficult task especially for the eyes of the supporters. The term "midfield general" has been used as our saviour for many seasons and yet apparently that issue has never been addressed to full satisfaction yet. Our current squad is adequate but something needs to be added to the mix and whether we already have the players on board or whether we need to plunge in to the overrated January transfer window is down solely to SC and his actions, or non-actions, are yet to be played out. The time is close at hand where we need to become more dominant and stamp our authority and commitment to promotion out on the pitch and quite honestly I don't think, despite our league position, we have reached that point with our performances. Time alone will tell us what plans SC has up his sleeve and we all await with baited breath to see what happens next. The credibility of the team has improved by leaps and bounds this season and that is all down to the main man and so we have to trust his judgement to get it right - and he will.
Midfield General? I understand that you don't have the opportunity to see us play regurly Mike but the only way we are short in midfield is when Elliott's legs run out. As a team we only need reinforcements for the run in to back up certain areas ie frontline but midfield is an area we are fine in till the summer.
My thread was not intended to criticise any particular players but rather to point out that we just lack the shine to get us automatic promotion. Shake out the cobwebs and maybe we'll be OK.
Extending the loans of Kane and Smith would do but extra signings wouldn't do any harm and would possibly make summer recruitment easier. Too much spending on the wrong players cost Johnson and us for years.
If we are serious about promotion, and we bloody well ought to be, then we should be looking to bring players in sooner rather than later to ease the transition into the next tier. PNE, with Beckford and Gallagher have probably the best front 2 in this division despite losing Joe Garner, and they also don't concede many goals.
We have two creative midfielder, or as my father used to call them, tinopeners. Our biggest weakness in my opinion, has not been the creation of chances. But over the last two months or so, it has been our failure to take the chances we have consistently made in the first quarter of a match. This has allowed quite ordinary sides to make us work very hard throughout the game to get late winners. And the best example was the home defeat v PNE we we could easily have been three up at half time. So this is not a slag at individuals but as a team we have not been ruthless in putting early chances in to the onion bag. How do we put this right? New striker(s) or more bodies in the penalty box?
