I can see Schneiderlin, Clyne and Jay( if he is back playing by then).

    I wouldn't start half-expecting a Morgan stay, nor Clyne.

And as I have said before, it is just as likely that us finishing, say 4th, will be deemed as a fluke and players would still want to go to Arsenal/Liverpool/Spurs over us. It would take us finishing above those teams consistantly and actually winning a couple of trophies for us to have a shout at comparing ourselves to them in terms of size. And this would take a time period probably longer than Schneiderlin's career span.

I have my doubts about Wanyama staying too. But, hopefully we'll continue to have a storming season, they all decide to stay and we party by winning the league next season...

The Schneiderlin incident proved to us and the board that they have the final say...2/3 may leave and 3/4 arrive, but we now know we can survive.

I think Rodriguez (if fit again) and Schneiderlin are more likely to go than stay. If we finish top four we might get another year out of Clyne (unless a move has already been agreed). Other than that Wanyama is the only first-teamer I could seeing attracting enough interest that he might be sold.

Why do you all assume that anyone who attracts attention will be allowed to leave? We do have some control over this...and it hasn't turned out too badly has it.

I have no issue with who we replace the players who do leave with, as the board/scouting team have earnt some trust on that front. But, as you mentioned before, I don't think there will be a mass exodus either, which makes it more likely that those who do want to go can go. I firmly believe that the only reason the board put its foot down over Morgan in the summer was the number of players who had left previously. From all the murmurings at the time it seemed as if he had been verbally told he could go, only for the board to do a u-turn, possibly because of the fan backlash/media **** storm that had occurred with the other 5 leaving.

So therefore I think if Clyne/Morgan/Wanyama express a large interest in leaving the board will not stand in their way, provided we get a good offer come in.

No, I will not allow this. :) The whole of last summer I maintained that the club has a certain amount of power to prevent players leaving, only to be countered numerous times by posters saying that nothing can be done if a player wants out. And look, I was right after all. We kept Morgan, we endured his sulking for a bit, and very fast got him performing at his usual level. We could have done the same with every other player, only we were, it seems, comfortable with selling them for extraordinary fees. And it will be the same this summer. Every key player is staying, but some of them (probably Schneiderlin and Clyne) will be allowed to go if someone offers silly money. And we probably already have replacements lined up.

That's why I won't mind if Clyne and Morgan go. I trust the club to find good replacements.

I don't assume that anyone attracting interest will be allowed to leave but Rodriguez and Schneiderlin have both made noises about leaving before and it will be harder to convince them to stay and make less financial sense. Going by the rumours my guess (hope?) is that we also have Ings lined up to replace Rodriguez and maybe Clasie to replace Schneiderlin.

With Clyne it's simple. He's young, English and good enough that someone might offer silly enough money for him that the club has to take it. Wanyama plays in a position where two or three of the big clubs need a player and is good enough that he might attract a big offer as well. Whether it'd be big enough for us to sell I don't know.

I have never supported the idea that players can leave if they want to...sometimes it can look that way, but only because the money hits a tipping point...as I think it did with Chambers. Sometimes the players behave badly and aren't worth the trouble, but most players will ask and then knuckle down if told no. Can't imagine JWP throwing a paddy, can you?

We will finish a great season and most of the team will be looking forward to next season.

I think this time last season most would've said this about Lallana, it is very hard to predict what will happen in football.

We are said to be chasing a striker...better throw a Smart car and a Boots token into the offer now.

I agree that if we were to finish in the top four that one good season alone might not be enough to keep hold of Jay/Morgan/Toby. The problem is these players want more money and it means something to them to play for a big club - so they can look back on their careers with no regrets and say I played for Arsenal, United or whoever.

This all makes it difficult for us to upset the cartel. We could finish top four a few seasons in a row - maybe five - which will depend on astute buys (Saints made this look easy over the summer but pulling this off regularly will be a huge challenge) and trying to keep hold of as many players as possible. Only then could playing for Saints hold that natural appeal and by then perhaps we'd have more dosh to spend on wages. It is doable of course but we are flying close to the sun at present.

And isn't it unsurprising that all those who flocked from the club aren't yet enjoying success? We are the epitomy of 'a team'. Take players away from that and their effectiveness wanes. Plus we've got to be one of the best clubs at getting 110% out of players. Do they get that same level of support and training when they leave?
