Midfielder Liam Bridcutt is fit again after suffering a concussion in the 0-0 draw with Aston Villa on 28 December. Leeds boss Neil Redfearn has suggested he may rotate his squad after a sequence of five losses in seven games. "I think we've relied on certain players for a long time this season and a lot of them are young," he said. The match is a re-run of the FA Cup final of 1973, in which Ian Porterfield's goal gave Sunderland victory, and will see current Black Cats boss Gus Poyet come up against the club where he spent a year as assistant manager between 2006 and 2007. Poyet is saddened by Leeds' current predicament - they are just a point off the Championship relegation zone - only 14 years after they reached the semi-finals of the Champions League and were Premier League title contenders. "I think they have got everything [they need] to be in the Premier League - they should be in the Premier League - but they are paying the price of two or three incredible years at the highest level," Poyet said. "All the enjoyment of that Champions League moment... now it's the other side, the darker side, and it's not easy. "They are on the way back, but it's taking a little bit longer than I would have expected." It is the two teams' first FA Cup meeting since the 1973 showpiece and boyhood Leeds fan Redfearn believes that, despite the intervening 42 years, revenge will be on the agenda. "For the supporters, it's the tradition of it with the fixture in 1973 for people who can remember that far back," he said. "From their point of view as well, we want revenge, we want to get the result we couldn't get then. "But also from the club's point of view, it's a real opportunity to go and progress." Match Stats The last time Sunderland met Leeds United in the FA Cup was in the final in 1973 which they won 1-0. The other two times Leeds and Sunderland have met, the Whites progressed on both occasions (in 1927, and in 1967 after two replays). Leeds have won just one of their last six FA Cup away games (W1 D2 L3) since they beat Manchester United in the third round in 2010. Leeds have only been past the third round of the FA Cup in two of the last 10 seasons. Five of the last six meetings between Leeds and Sunderland have ended as away wins. Leeds have won five of their last seven away games at Sunderland. I'm normally mild mannered on here but due to my hatred for Leeds I'm letting rip at them tonight. This my friends is why Leeds are KNOWN to be the scummiest fans in the country... http://www.not606.com/threads/sunderland-v-leeds-utd.288022/page-3#post-7454488
Just found out I can definitely get to the match. Haway Lads, entertain the crowd and send the lower league team crying home to wherever they've come from
There's a big difference between you and them. You'd never say anything, on here, you wouldn't repeat face to face. They would never repeat what they say face to face.
Difficult to call the team on this one due to so many players being doubtful, especially in the back line. Talk of Buckley being deployed at right back. Could work against lower league opposition. I expect Mannone to get a chance to shake the rust off today. Alvarez and Giaccherini simply have to start but I cant see Gus budging on his system so Johnson will start from the bench along with Fletcher. ....................Mannone.......................... Buckley....Oshea....Coates....Jones.... .....................Bridcutt........................... Alvarez....Rodwell....Gomez...Giacch..................................Wickham........................
Great op. Then there seems to have been a race to see whose fans can be the biggest dick heads... Let's just hope for a good game, with team that deserves it winning. To all those going, have a good safe day. Good news smeg, I can let you have a ticket for this one... It will be in the singing section though.
Surely Buckley would be left and jones right? With the being left and right footed respectively? What I have seen of Buckley fills me with nothing but dread. His work rate is poor when we don't have the ball.
Wtf??? Pva is back TEAM NEWS: #SAFC Pantilimon, Vergini, van Aanholt, Coates, O'Shea (c), Bridcutt, Rodwell, Gomez, Alvarez, Giaccherini, Fletcher. #SAFC subs: Stryjek, Larsson, Wickham, Johnson, Buckley, Beadling, Robson. 12:07 PM - 4 Jan 2015
I see Ronnie Radford's goal was on the telly yesterday !, I have only seen it 250 times since 1972 hehe.
He started training again yesterday!!! Was due back tomorrow but obvs he's ready. He'll only last an hour, be interesting if he falls in the shoulder at any point.
