We can really wind up the Bournemouth fans if they go up next season: "You're only here because of us"
@SimonH_: @jankluit @SouthamptonFC Enjoy your first FA Cup. Please remind the lads this is what it means...... please log in to view this image @JanKluit: Wow
I still think that he was offside! Only kidding it must have been a great day as I discovered 2 years later!
I tried to get there, but the way was so chocabloc I never got past Burgess Road and had to wait for them to come past, wall to wall people all of the way from the town. Those Rose Gardens by the Civic Centre never recovered! Was lucky later to catch up with them when they visited the Fords Factory, happy days (the team that is, not the roses!).
The Bournemouth thing reminds me a bit of the Pompey fans during my teen years. Pompey were a team from 2 divisions below and for the life of me I couldn't understand the hatred which their fans had for us. They were, to me, rather irrelevant. I always had a soft spot for Bournemouth on the other hand, partly because their fans seemed to share the sentiment. It's a shame that some seem set on changing that and if they make it to the EPL next season, I can only see that getting worse.
I just remember them singing " The referee's a SCUMMAH' which didn't endear them to me to be honest. WTF - wannabee skates?
Didn't we agree to play pre-season friendlies at Dean Court for a few years running to help them raise money? Yes we did.
Great memories of the 76 cup final and parade. I was on the same coach back from Wembley as Jim Steels parents and he had given them his medal which I got to look at and hold. I guess Jim had already decided to replace the medal with the cup itself for the evening, with the help of Ossie of course lol It was a great day out in Cardiff against Arsenal but you have to win it to have real memories to take to your grave. That's why I love Koeman, he's only interested in winning it not a great cup run.
I have a spare ticket for the game because my cousin is ill and can't make it. Is there anyone who might be interested?
Of course, given the money we got for Lallana and what we paid for him, you could argue that we are partly where we are because of them!
No way was he offside by the way, you can see Buchan gultily creepng forwards way after he got the ball
This is, of course, the whole point. They hate the fact that we don't hate them i.e. we haven't ever taken them seriously as rivals and have a kind of condescending attitude towards them.
I know people only remember the victors, but it is worth pointing out that we made the final in Cardiff as well. It shows that we can make it to the final. I quite fancy taking on Arsenal again
If we were to get anyone in the final , it would have to be Liverpool. The media would hype it up as the fairytale ending for Gerrard, and then Liverpool get outplayed and Pelle , Tadic or Mane steal his big day. Oh and gerrard to have a last minute 40 yarder to equalise and for it to hit the post. Lallana and Lovren in tears. Rickie forgets who he plays for and joins the team to lift the trophy.
