Arsenal will comfortably finish above southampton this year. i think Arsenal will get third. it is easy to be down but the injuries are so severe at the moment. Ozil Ramsey Arteta Wilshere Walcott are all set to return for the second half of the season. No team could cope with missing so many players. once they are back Arsenal will start to string results together and as it stands are still only four points off third.

todays game Arsenal had the entire midfield starting players missing and all their strikers!

You can set your standards as high as you like but if you come away with a disappointed (<ok>) feeling from a 2-0 victory over a top team then your going to spend most of your time disappointed! Like I said, even when Arsenal were the best team in the country I'd not be disappointed with a 2-0 win over any team, let alone one of the top handful. I was highlighting the arrogance of his comment.

The next bit of your post is just your failure to comprehend the discussion. I haven't said and nor would I because I don't agree with the statement, that those players only developed at Arsenal. I was responding to the idea that they've come to Arsenal and then failed, or not developed properly.

And your last line, I suppose it's up to you how you think I come across :) I think you come across like someone who doesn't read what there responding to.

I think we can afford to be arrogant. Why do you assume that we can't finish above Arsenal? The last two performances at home plus the Man Utd game we should not have lost have demonstrated that we can live with the best clubs in the land. This season has been fascinating and I think Southampton have a squad who are showing that they fear no one.

I'm sorry if this seems cocky but it is time for the likes of Arsenal to perhaps move aside for other new and exciting teams. I think Koeman can steer Southampton towards cementing a place in Europe. He has had the experience of European football and we are now witnessing a degree of technical nous to the team which means the line up can be adjusted to achieve a result. Last season was good but this season seems to be even better. The squad has depth and perhaps only needs cover for the right back position. Watching this season, the team's performances seem to build with confidence after each successive match. I don't think that it has ever been such a good time to be a Saints fan since with days of Lawrie Mac.

For too long the EPL has been dominated by the same four or five clubs and it would be refreshing for the game if Southampton could establish themselves as contenders for a European place. I can enjoy watching Chelsea and Man City but I would relish the likes of Man Utd and Arsenal relinquishing their status and for teams like Southampton to freshen things up. I think Van Gaal will ultimately get Man Utd back to their best yet I think Arsenal under Wenger have probably had their day.Granted, "The invincible" team ensured that Arsenal / Wenger will always be respected and admired. However, it would be refreshing for the game if teams like Southampton manage to supplant Arsenal and Wenger's poor-sportsmanship only makes me wish this more.

I didn't say you couldn't finish above us. You said you'd be disappointed not to finish 6-8 points ahead of us. I highlighted that very few teams have managed to do that without finishing in the top two. It isn't slightly arrogant to take the stance you are, it's hugely arrogant. Your assuming based on half a good season that you will have comfortably bested teams who have consistently finished amongst the top.

I think Southampton have a lot to be happy about, I think you're doing really well and as I said before I hope Southampton continue to do well. I also think you should be aiming to try and fight for a European spot of some sort given how well you've started the season. But you're off your head to be so confident of finishing so comfortably high up the table that your looking down on us small clubs like Arsenal by the sort of points gap that only a few clubs have managed.

I'll just highlight how ridiculous the comment was to show I'm not just being a dick and thinking Arsenal are the almighty big club and saints a small club.

Last season finishing 8 points ahead of Arsenal would of won you the league, six points would of had you in second, a point of the title. So no-one managed 6-8 points over us.

The season before (the one utd ran away with) 8 points would of put you in second ahead of City by 3 points, so 6 points has you in second too. So only the league winners had at least a 6-8 point gap on us.

The season before that Arsenal came third and city and utd stormed the league finishing on 89 points each, a clear 19 points ahead of any other team, so that year your 6-8 points has you third in the league towering over arsenal, spurs and Chelsea. With only first and second having the gap your after.

The year before that either 6 or 8 points puts you in second above city, Chelsea and Arsenal. Only the league winners had a points gap of the size your after.

I can continue to go back if you like?

You forget we also have our top scorer of last season still out (Rodriguez) and Mane went off injured. It would be great to finish top 6 if we can. Only by a miracle would we finished top 4. I can see it being City, Chelsea, Utd, Arsenal and Spurs then between us (Saints) , Liverpool, West Ham for 6th.

But don't let Ian wind you up he is insane.

Yeah IMO Top 4 will be City, Chavski, Us/United in that order. Think you should be able to take at least 6th and could pip Spurs for 5th.

Chesney MUST be dropped after that performance - for both Hull AND the next PL game at minimum to send a message to him. Likewise Merts should have been dropped after the recent "duckgate" scandal. There is zero accountability for mistakes in this team.

I agree, but who is there to replace for example Mert with, Chambers? The guy is already playing far too much for his age and experience and using him would only exasperate the problem. Competition is healthy and for a team of Arsenals stature, there needs to be plenty of it. Come Jan, i'm hoping we get some much needed reinforcements in to last the rest of the season and to pick our performances up.

I reckon Saints are really looking dangerous to knock one of the usual sides out of the top 4 places and I think you may well be the ones to miss out if we finish 4th. I've seen Saints a lot this season, and we are good enough to finish 4th. I'm not saying we will, but at the moment Saints are looking more likely than Arsenal to finish 4th.

Good reply, I totally agree with you, Arsenal are a sleeping giant, and if they can get all their player back and playing at their best Arsenel will still be up there. This season has started to see even the top teams dropping points, so it could well still be open at the end. I would be happy for Saint to finish anywhere in the top six, there are a lot of teams hitting form and it is goin got be a real dog fight. Arsenal will be up there I'm sure

Yes but the big question is, will you have the legs to last the full season as I can see it going to the wire. We have the squad to last a whole season but do you?

Arsenal are not really a sleeping giant. They've always been somewhere in the range of the third to fifth biggest club in the land and they still are.

So says the Spurs supporter. But saying that I have really liked the way Spurs have played last two games, you lot could be in with a shout as well in finishing 3/5

Lol @ Ian. Normally me with the drunken posts. I think when asking if we have the legs people should consider that it is now transfer window time and we do have money to spend. I will stop short (on an opponents board) of suggesting we will finish top4 and ahead of them because it would be foolish. However come May if the unthinkable should happen I will be partying and have no time to wind up other teams supporters until the following August.

Correction - you have the midfielders and forwards to last a whole season. Not defence judging by the amount of times Monreal played CB!!!

The 3rd/4th berth is still up for grabs, Everton pushed all the way and were a few games from pulling it off. This is January, I will not lose sleep and will not be wound up by where we are at the moment. Spurs are also in this year, it will be nice for them to get in...... Majority of fans had high expectations at the start of the season, and most hoped we would be challenging for the title, it just shows our stock has fallen, when our boards are being swamped by hammers and saints fans.. These are teams normally fighting at the wrong end of the table against relegation. One clown even felt disappointed they only beat us 2-nil yesterday.
