Would Suarez give a **** if any squad member said anything to him? Including Gerrard. Good captains, the ones with right stuff can make good managers, or at least are the right sort for that career path.
I remember a game where Suarez was captain. Agger was subbed on and Suarez removed the armband and gave it to Agger. Top players are not all power and image obsessed.
True but Agger is well respected, older, been at the club for a while and is a quality player. There is that level of respect. I'm talking about taking orders from a youngster.
A captain in basically a second manager but on the pitch. They should have a good raport with the manager and understand the tactics/gameplay. If Rodgers has picked Henderson that would mean he is confident that he can do this. Thread should be for the vice captain
He's the popular choice but I don't see Henderson as the captain of Liverpool FC, I just don't think he's ready.
I think it does. We would have known Gerrard would be going in the next couple of years so have appointed a slightly younger player to take over when he moves on. Unless we sign someone in the summer who has clear leadership qualities but even then don't think they'd come in and take over the captaincy straight away.
Henderson as captain would be disastrous. Not even QPR or Swansea would make someone like him captain, he just doesn't have the quality or the personality.
henderson should be given captaincy for now.. imo lallana hasnt been here long enough but i think he would do alright in a year or so
I'd tend to agree. It's not a 100% certainty, but most likely. Unless we bring in a ready-made, experienced leader in January and that's unlikely.

Bit cynical, Hash. I think most would jump at the opportunity. We may be a bit **** at the moment, but nobody will be resigned to being **** forever.
Bring someone in. Who has experience, leadership quality and more footballing ability. Henderson is a good vice captain, he takes orders and is always professional, never moaning and sets professional standards. But realistically if we want to be a regular champions league team then we need better than Henderson as a regular in midfield. Even Sakho would be a better option.
Tbh the only player who is guaranteed starter and should play every game he is able to is Sterling. The rest are above average players.
Life is life though, there are many in that squad that would not appreciate a 20 year old barking at them, a 20 year old with a bit of a suspect temperament. For players to accept a captain they have to respect the captain, otherwise it just ain't gonna work, Hendrson is someone who can be respected even if he is not the shout and scream at other players type. Sadly with Gerrard, much of the time he rants at players, like Borini recently, Gerrard has been **** himself. He should have screamed at himself for some of the balls he tried to play, sick of him trying to pick out an advanced Moreno and giving it to the opposition to run forward with Moreno left adrift because of Gerrard's passes. He does the same to both fullbacks. My point, a captain also has to play well and be consistent otherwise how can he credibly kick anyone else up the arse. henderson is pretty consistent
and heap MORE pressure on a 20 year old? Henderson is the right choice and he should play centre midfield NOW.
