I would be happy for McLaren at StP, always have been. Most of the negativity towards him is because of his image with the umbrella. He was on a hiding to nothing with being Eriksson's assistant but otherwise he's been better than average in his club exploits.

Agreed. He plays great, attacking football at Derby and isn't afraid to play young players if he deems them good enough. He would progress Aarons, Dummett, Armstrong, Perez and the two kids at Forest nicely IMO.

More than likely we wouldn't pay enough for Clement. McClaren has done well. England was too big for him, far too early in his career. He got it wrong, and I think more than anything being an assistant then the main man was not right. The players always view an assistant as the good cop. Plus we were never as good as we thought anyway!

The thing I respect is him going abroad and broadening his horizons. Just like Sir Bob did. Then he has come back, not been afraid of taking a couple of difficult championship jobs. He has done well at both, plays attacking football and develops young players. Pardew has left us in great shape in terms of league position and the way he has developed our youth system. I think someone like McClaren, Clement or Howe is the way to go. Waste of time discussing really though as they are employed. It will be someone unemployed and desperate.

Impossible to disagree, an appointment like the three mentioned - perhaps even Dyche - would be what more or less any other chairman of this club would do as a BARE MINIMUM!! I mean, we're an aspiring top-6 side, 52000 gates, self-sufficient, with the likes of Moussa, Perez, Aarons, Colback, Cisse, Cabella and De Jong in the squad. That the best we can even hope for is a Championship boss or an assistant manager is absurd in itself, but that's where we are. What makes it worse is we're all absolutely certain we'll get worse than that, either the current caretaker, the current youth manager or some other bottom of the barrell wastrel like Worthington or McDermott. Is Terry Venables free?

What's amazing is the communication, as usual, from the club.

    "West Brom sack Irving."
"West Brom talk to Sherwood and Pulis."
    "West Brom appoint Pulis."

    NUFC - "......no comment...."

I mean, what the fukkity fuk?

If Carver had the talent he would have been a manager by now. He learned from Robson then went under that clitwart Blackwell for a time and most likely learnt **** all. Wherever he has gone once the top job comes up and he steps in, he embarress himself. I'm sure he was in charge at Leeds in a caretaker capacity, had a terrible run which culminated in Luton putting 5 past them. When he was at Luton under Blackwell he was a massive **** and generally made a ****er out of himself.

Some bloke's are just number 2's I guess and Carver is not the man to take us forward. To appoint him would be adding a 12 pound tumour to our Premiership body.

McClaren would do an excellent job at Newcastle I feel. Really is about time he came back to the Premier League and I'm sure he's not really looking forward too the struggle Derby are going to face next year IF they're promoted, I really don't see them as premier league survivors honestly. They didn't make it last year and they're only pushing up now because of the opposition not being as rich as the three last year.

I'm surprised Mick McCarthy isn't in the running either, guy's never done a poor job and he had Wolves playing some excellent football at one point. I fondly remember the goal they scored where they made about 25(ish) short passes around the entirety of the pitch to set up the goal.

You are labouring under the assumption that Ashley wants us to move forward. He doesn't. We are 10th and that will do him quite nicely at the end of the season.

With Carver in charge the likelihood is we won't finish tenth, it's a gamble, he doesn't take gambles.

Oh wait, he's a known gambling addict.

Derby have just signed Darren Bent on loan for the season. I'd say that rules McClaren out. Derby would surely want some sort of commitment from McClaren before paying out for sizeable wages on a player like Bent. Likewise I'm sure Bent would have requested assurances from McClaren before signing for them.

Exactly!! Ashley thrives on a gamble. The bigger the risk the bigger the hard-on he seems to get from it.

Like I mentioned before, I think we will get a new manager in the summer. Ashley will give Carver 6 months to humiliate himself with awful performances and then go for Bruce or McClaren. Perhaps Darren Bent might fancy a loan move here for a bit? <laugh>

The very fact that Ashley cant even be arsed to come back from his Jolly's should tell you something. I wonder if Carver will threaten the crowd individually or as a collective when they get on his back. We really are a piss pot, farcical excuse for a club aren't we :embarrassed:

There's always the chance that he's so pissed off with NUFC and the fans attitude that he doesn't care about anything except ensuring that the value of his investment doesn't disappear down the pan. That's got to be the worst case because surely nobody in the right minds would deliberately bugger up a personal investment of £250m?

I prefer to think that having had his fingers burnt in the early years, he runs the club as a business which means that he does want to move us forward but he's not interested in spending silly money for what in reality would be small gains. Would any serious businessman spend what is required to try and ensure that we make top 6? The amount needed to take that step is now too great and the return too small - unless of course you think top 4 if possible but that would require even more investment and more risk.

This had crossed my mind seeing as Ipswich are my closest team and no one down here can work out how the bunch of no-care loanees from a couple of seasons ago have somehow morphed into a team that are now second in the Championship.

Plus McCarthy is quite funny in his post-match interviews, although I appreciate that that is not a requirement of the job :emoticon-0100-smile

It's because Mick McCarthy is an excellent manager who has always had a rough time. Wolves should never of sacked the bloke, they sacked him and quickly realised that he was keeping a side just about good enough for league 1 in the premiership.

Ashley wants somebody with thick skin and nods to his every request. There's few of them around, Steve Kean springs to mind.

McClaren would take you forward and bring your team on a lot. He's without doubt the best English coach alive today, one of the best coaches in all of football but maybe not the best manager. Perfect for you lot.

That would be a master stroke from both parties if he went to Newcastle.
