Our defence is awful no doubt, that's aided by our midfield not shielding the back 3 well enough. Gerrard shouldn't be playing 90mins. We looked alot better against Swansea, Our pressing especially was impressive, playing Gerrard and moving Hendo out wide changed the whole dynamism of the team. There was absolutely no need to change a winning team, not after we had probably our best performance this season. .
I think you have to balance context here as well. sorry to the swans as i know they like to think they are the bees knees but swansea have a total jynx when it comes to anfield, and are not that great away from home either. They turned up failing to press at all and were clearly sitting back quite a bit until we scored the first goal. frankly after that they gave us quite a run around in the first half.. things then went our way. I am not saying the work rate from players like henderson and coutinho was not 100 times better, just that its not right to get carried away with one game. Just like pointing back to 3-0 away to spurs as evidence that if only sturridge was fit everything woudl be fine and badontelly would be awesome. The issue for me is lucas AND gerrard, I don't know why rodgers did that v leicester and what on earth he stuck henderosn back out wide as it wasn't to rest him anyway. For me I feel the change to be made was to drop out lucas for gerrard v leicester as frankly lucas played enough over the christmas to be shattered. I also feel we over played sterling as well and it might bite us shortly.
