A lino makes a common sense decision, something severely lacking in football these days and everyone loses their mind <laugh>

Because the rules are not about "common sense". Half of the players in the PL wouldn't be sent off if the refs used common sense.

We know that, even better reason to applaud a bit of common sense from an official. Not only that, neither player fell on the ground crying like they'd been shot. I applaud them both for that too.

To try to justify what Shelvey did from what happened equally between Fernandez and Sterling is at least stupid , understand that one whitey ;-)

Common sense - as long as it's in your favour. Where was it when Fabianski was sent off against West Ham?

I'm not doing that. They are two separate incidents. Looks as though you're on here drunk again.

    Q. Have you ever seen a player sent off for doing what Fernandez did? (I'll answer it for you as you seem incapable of doing so)
    A. No

But without it you'd have Fern banned as well as Shelvey, so it was in both our favours

If Sterling went down like a ton of bricks after he did it, Fern might have seen red because all the officials see is Fern raising his hand and making contact and Sterling going down, very possible he would have been sent off, Sterling retalliated instead meaning they both could have seen red. Common sense prevailed. I'd seen reds for no contact but hands raised. Doesn't take a genius to see that when you raise your hands you risk being sent off, intent doesn't come into it, how the officials see it is all that matters.

The rules do not allow for a distinction between tap and slap, if you tap a wound up player on the head like that he is never gonna see it as friendly, keep your hands to yourself, especially during times of aggression.

I'll ask you as well - Have you seen a player sent off for what Fernandez did? I doubt if you will find an example, but if the ref had sent him off it would be the second time he had been incorrectly sent off at Anfield in successive matches......................

Just explain to him that the Swans player provoked Sterling and drew the reaction from the Liverpool player.

    #provoked being the key word.

No, you're just showing you're lack of understanding of the game.

"What Fern did" I assume you are making a distincition because it was the back of his head and not the face?

What was sterling's reaction? Had that been right in front of the ref in the middle of the park they both might have got booked, or sent off. Most likely 2 yellows. You see you can't just go tapping people on the head in a match. Especially a player you've just been in an aggressive tussle with.

If the ref deemed Sterling's slap a red, then he would have red carded Fern too. The ref would have little choice.

As for Fern's action preventing Sterling getting sent off, well if Fern never did that, Sterling wouldn't have either,

Not hard to figure out really, Fern did it to annoy Sterling not congratulate him, Sterling reacted, both committed the same offence, stop trying to compartmentalise the tap on it's own in an attempt to portray it as a friendly thing, it wasn't. It's not like he just congratulated Sterling for scoring. They were aggressive and he did that and Sterling reacted and that is the context.
The ref could easily have sent them both off.

The lino probably most likely wanted no part of it and avoided the spotlight like a plague
