From the man who said we will not sign Balotelli:

Brendan Rodgers says Liverpool are unlikely to make any new signings during the January transfer window as he insisted: “I'm happy with what I've got.”

The Reds boss believes the club's recent upturn in fortunes has proved they have sufficient talent to maintain a push up the Premier League table in the second half of the season.

“There won't be a lot of transfer activity from us, if any, over the course of the January period,” Rodgers said.

Read More: See our Liverpool FC analysis on why the club should stick with their current squad

“We brought in a lot of players in the summer who we felt could develop. They are starting to adapt to life here at Liverpool and to this way of working.

“My job is to coach and manage the players who are currently here, and work hard at maximising the talent they have.

“My first look is always within and we've seen how we've adapted the team and the structure of the team in order to make that work.

“I don't think January is a good time to spend. If you look back to last January we didn't bring anyone in.

“If there is something available, then the beauty of our owners here is that they will always back what it is we want to do.

“If we felt there was something that would improve us over the short term or longer term, we would pretty much do that.

“But I'm happy with the strength of the squad and with how the group is progressing.

“It's been a tough start to the season for us, but you can see our game coming back and confidence returning to the team.

“It would have to be someone to significantly improve us as I don't want to stockpile players here.

“We have some outstanding young talents out on loan like young Jordon Ibe. We sent him out to get experience and he's having a wonderful season at Derby. We've also got Andre Wisdom at West Brom.

“My focus will always be on what we've got from within in terms of young talent.”

Rodgers believes last summer's signings are starting to show their class after a tough start to life at Anfield.

Adam Lallana struck twice in the win over Swansea, while fellow new boys Alberto Moreno, Javier Manquillo and Emre Can also impressed.

"It takes times for new players," Rodgers added.

"It is unfortunate with the analysis of modern players now. If think back years ago, players were given time to settle, but now they are getting judged after one or two games.

"Imagine a player from this country going abroad and trying to adapt to a new way of life, a new culture, a new language, it takes months, not a few games.

"We brought in a number of young players who were coming away from their homelands for the first time in their lives.

"We brought them here because they are very good players and we feel they can contribute. Hopefully we'll see real progress over the coming years with those players."

Whatever Rodgers says is largely irrelevant to what happens...

Here's an idea Brendan, why not start flogging a few of our duds? Starting with Mignolet and Borini

I believe him ... I reckon FSG have said no more money.

As for the striker they probably told him he bought 2 get the best out of them.

Hurray no Champions League football next season............................. Wait a minute :emoticon-0112-wonde that's a bad thing

Certain area's need strengthening if we ever want to consider getting 4th, the goalkeeper, CB's and strikers just to start.

I don't think it is, he was given the money in the summer I assume with the expectation that after spending that much he wouldn't be coming back crawling in Jan.

Rodgers also said it will take half a season to get things up and running, that is also proving accurate, am sure it won't be plain sailing but we're at half way and the new players are starting to have their impact and we are looking infinitely better going forward. I think as long as we get 5th at least, Rodgers is safe.

This will be the 2nd January window the owners (and management) have decided we're not buying and the current squad is good enough. Personally I think last year was a mistake and I think this year its an even bigger mistake. Last year that extra player or two might have given us enough to cross the line and this year its clear that we're lacking in areas.

I'd say they still don't understand what the Jan window is for, but their first couple of seasons saw our best buys come in Jan, Suarez, Sturridge and Couts.

Its not like we need wholesale changes, that can come in the summer, but we do need to sell some of the **** and replace them with better.

By what Rodgers says it sounds like there will be attempts for one or two players but if the deals don't happen for a good price they'll just walk away and make do.

I think it's blind luck that the team is clicking now and nothing to do with Rodgers' claim that it'll take half a season for them to 'gel' or get used to the new style of play. It's his inability to drop certain players or given performing players a proper run out which has resulted in the last awful few months - nothing to do with new players not fitting in. Gerrard will waltz back into the starting XI either as a sole DM or next to Lucas/Henderson and the whole pressing dynamic will be lost and we'll lose.

Unfortunately, I think the board see it as the media do; Gerrard is infallible and this the upturn of results is due to the bullshit that Rodgers is putting down our throats.

TBF we tried to sign Konoplyanka.

Maybe Rodgers wants to keep his 100% January signing record of Coutinho and Sturridge.

The bottom line is he said we'd see the real team in the 2nd half, it's looked promising, no more, but if that last game is the level we kick on from then he's kept his word. Its been a gradual improvement that started with the 3 0 beating at OT.

The bottom line is that we see signs of a real team when he makes the changes we (most fans at least on this board) are calling for. Playing our two good fullbacks, not playing Gerrard and not playing a static lump up front. Get those three things right and we'll play like we can do. It's nothing to do with Rodgers getting the team clicking, just him finally getting the right team selection by fluke - just like against Madrid.

Lucas is wanted by both Napoli and AC Milan on loan, but his reps aren't happy with AC because they're chasing other players too. I can see him going out til the end of the season for no fee, which'll be a really bad move on our behalf...but np, we've got Stevie to play DM.

We all think we are making the right calls, without knowing what is happening with the team and in training, we're all couch experts.

We'll see, but if it goes well enough from here on in, I just won't accept without laughing at you, that it is all because Rodgers is now doing what you all said he should do all along <laugh>

We've had some bad luck with signings, meaning Lovren\Badon. pedestrian lallana who is coming good, unfit Can and Markovic and two fullbacks that learned the hard way that you get a lot less time to dawdle on the ball than you do in Spain. A flapping keeper, and Lovren, who knew he would be so awful.

If we make wholesale changes again at any point, we'll be back to square one - yet again.
I suppose it's a sign of the times, but I wish people would remember that football is about building and maintaining a cohesive unit and that constantly stirring the pot doesn't work- unless you have unlimited funds to buy the very top players in the world, which we haven't.
I was unhappy that we bought so many new players in the summer- not because I thought they were poor, but because it was almost inevitable that they would take time to gel, and we can't afford to have a slow start every other season.
We do need to strengthen in one or two key areas, and need to get rid of some who have no real future, but I really hope we don't go chasing shadows in order to be seen to be doing something, in an attempt to keep us impatient fans happy.
