Never been mad on the loan system as we always seem to improve other teams players then lose them. I can see the necessity if a squad is decimated by injury or illness but, other than that, not keen on loans.
Loan or buy don't care, so long as the players brought in can help us produce goals and catapult us up the table for a comfortable finish. A comfortable finish is vital to attracting a better calibar of player in a summer imo. Every place will up our transfer and wage budget too.
I know mate and I also know how it saves on the wages bill. Still rather we had our own squad though instead of relying on other teams marginal players to fill the gaps. That`s just me though.
Totally with you on that. But the money isn't there yet. The longer we're in the PL the more TV money's going to roll into the club and I understand the club's quite close to financial security, which means more of the income eventually will go on the team. We could so easily have gone under, or ended up like Leeds, QPR and Bolton, with millions owed. We haven't because we've got a smart owner and board. We just need to stay patient and trust the management, and Gus and Congers, to keep us up and keep building. I'd actually like to see us bring some talent through from the reserves. Give one of the young'uns a chance one day soon.

GUS POYET expects a far less frantic January than his first transfer window at the Sunderland helm 12 months ago. The January sales formally open in the early hours of Saturday morning, with Sunderland concentrating on making one or two “quality” additions to the squad – one of which is likely to be a loan deal. Sunderland have been linked with out-of-favour Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah, while the Black Cats are also keeping an open-mind on the Continental market. However, head coach Poyet is far more relaxed with Sunderland’s January dealings than he was at the same stage last season, when the Black Cats were bidding to become only the second team in Premier League history to be bottom of the table at Christmas and still survive. Sunderland brought in five new signings, with Poyet desperate for an injection of fresh blood after just two months at the helm. Poyet told the Echo: “No doubt, it will be an easier January than last year. “I think the approach this year is very, very smart, rather than: ‘I need this, I need this, I need this’. “Last year, it was a little bit like that. “This window is a little bit more relaxed, at least at the moment. “We were desperate for a goalkeeper because Westy (Keiren Westwood) was injured. “I wanted Liam (Bridcutt) because I knew what he could do. “And then we started looking for a forward player and someone in the full-back position because we only had Andrea Dossena, who was injured at the time.” Sunderland had mixed success with their signings last January, with Bridcutt and Santiago Vergini the only members of that quintet still at the club, albeit the Black Cats tried to land loanee Marcos Alonso on a permanent deal during the summer. Argentine pair Oscar Ustari and Nacho Scocco both returned to their homeland with Newell’s Old Boys during the summer, with the latter proving a to be a major flop aafter his £4million move from Brazilian club Internacional. But, with Sunderland in such a precarious position in the relegation dogfight, Poyet admits the club had to look towards players they had a connection with. “It’s very difficult to attract players when you’re in that situation,” added the Uruguayan. “We had to look to people we knew. “We had a bit of a relationship with Marcos, with the Spanish, and we wanted him the year before at Brighton when he went to Fiorentina. “He was one of our targets because we knew Wayne Bridge (Brighton’s left-back) was probably retiring. “I knew Liam, I knew Oscar from Argentina, and Nacho Scocco as well. “Scocco is a great story about English football. “Every team in South America wanted him. well Gus you did know, the man was home sick and could not operate or function at all ,i got hammered on here for saying it about the player but that was the bottom line,those on here who have spent or are living away from home know what its like,some can cope and some cannot regardless of the rewards
I dont think we need more than maybe 2 in and one or two out in this window, even on loan until the summer would do. As others have suggested I would like to see one or two tried out in the positions where cover is thin, Rodders in CD or Mavrias at WB could solve a problem or two. Good players should be able to cover in other positions from time to time, JOS was excellent at right back in the derby, and Larrs was transformed moving into a more central role. Given a clean bill of health I think this squad will see us through. Onwards and upwards, a point to-day would be a great start, come on AJ turn it on.

Nobody likes it marra but reality is we've still got no option. Decent finish to the season and we've got a better chance and a bigger budget of bringing in players who are actually worth it. As it stands we're a relegation candidate, we could throw millions at transfers fees but it ain't going to make players come. If a good loan or two can see us finish a mid table club then I'm happy. Better than blowing half of next summers budget early on average players in an over inflated market.
With them two in charge, we are not going anywhere, we have gone backwards yet again, this team will not stay up I tell you, Poyet knew strikers should have been a priority, but we have 3 championship ones here and Fletcher is not doing it. most of the players signed have been worse than we had, and that has to stop. Ellis either put money in or stand down please. We have about 8 players championship standard include Whickam. It get's on my wick to hear Arsenal are going to spend £30m on a striker etc, when will we ?
