I reckon Newcastle would go only for top dollar. We get an average of 50k a week. Someone buys it and invests a few quid, they're hardly going to get many more people through the door. Not much of an opportunity to make a few quid unless they spend a lot of money to break into the champions league spots. That's not likely to happen.

I reckon investors would be better off buying a leeds, forest or Sheffield Wednesday, who wouldn't cost as much but with a huge potential fan base.

I personally just don't see there being a huge list of people interested in football ownership at the moment. There's more exciting things happening for passing fadists to look into at the moment <ok>

Turning the question round ask yourself, what sort of Owner do you want?

When you answer that and work out how much money they need to invest to get what you want, you might find that there aren't that many individuals or groups that can afford NUFC and go forward to compete at the top.

In reality, competing at the top again is very unlikely, and we'd end up with someone no better than Ashley and potentially more spendthrift, or worse again Venkys or Tan...

Newcastle on paper really should be every rich sugar daddy's wet dream. Fanbase, stadium, revenue, potential global merchandising and marketing, club status, even the bloody club colours lol.

On the point about the negativity of fans towards Ashley, I don't think that matters at all. The way potential buyers see it is simple - they want success, the fans want success, where's the conflict? Look at Real Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, Inter, Arsenal, Juventus, Roma, any Turkish side you want to mention, historically they have all had fans kicking up a fuss ranging from protests to actually taking direct action against the club. What makes Newcastle any worse to any of those in that respect.

The only thing I would say, is a rich owner may bring success but be careful what you wish for. Price of season tickets, the cost of merchandising rocketing, the inevitable change in the ethos of the club (I emphasise that last one because it's clear as day, the ethos of NUFC among the fans is considered something special, something that is locally understood and needs to be at the heart of everything Newcastle United) may and probably will change (arguably for the worse). Is the price of success something you're willing to sacrifice some or all of those things for?

    This just appeared.

The largest shareholder of fallen Scottish giants Rangers, investment group Laxey Partners, confirmed on Wednesday that it has relinquished its 16 percent stake in the club to a consortium.

The Isle of Man-based group said it had sold its stake to a consortium led by Scottish businessmen Douglas Park, George Letham and George Taylor in order to counter the influence of rival shareholder Mike Ashley.

British media reports said that the consortium, known as the 'Three Bears', had paid almost £2.7 million ($4.2 million, 3.5 million euros) to secure the shares.

"I sold because a fans-based group were hopefully going to be the best placed to take on Ashley's power," Laxey Partners chairman Colin Kingsnorth said, according to Britain's Press Association.

"After Ashley removed (Laxey board member) Norman Crighton, Ashley's most vocal critic, it was obvious (Rangers chairman) David Somers was just a wet fish agreeing anything Ashley wanted.

"I am sure the Three Bears are an upgrade on us for fans and hopefully this is the start of the ownership being in the right hands."

Taylor bought a 3.2 percent stake in Rangers last month, meaning the 'Three Bears' now control 19.5 percent of the club.

The consortium recently offered the Rangers board £6.5 million to underwrite a share issue that the Glasgow club need to launch in order to recoup £8.3 million in losses and stay afloat.

Rangers recently borrowed £3 million from Ashley.

But he was prevented from raising his stake in the club from 8.92 percent to just under 30 percent by the Scottish Football Association because of his dual interests as owner of English club Newcastle United.

He`s obviously not getting all his own way.

There was a good article in the Mail last week on Donald Parks and an anticipated £6.5m offer. A long way to go if Ashley really is aiming for overall control.

Looks like they don`t want him up there.

Seems like he`s after European advertising for his company and saw Rangers as a cheaper way of getting it. Just got me wondering if it might make him decide to pull out of it and invest in your lot.

Impossible to second guess him though.
