Why can't we turn it down ? I'm not saying we would turn it down, just wondering why ? If he stays, we wouldn't have the money. We don't have any financial worries. We would need to spend most of it on another striker to replace him. Look at Liverpool - they took the money for Suarez and are worse off for it. The difference is that they can attract bigger names than us. I think it comes down to whether the player himself wants to go, rather than us grabbing the cash.
Agreed, and he's been making it pretty clear with his goal celebrations that he feels at home here and wants to stay. That said I'm sure that's a very naive view from me and he's just playing up to the fans...it's still a nice gesture though.
Well we need a new fullback, possibly two wingers and a replacement for Jonjo/Leon. That £30 million would go a long way to solving these problems imo.
So there's 4 players you're suggesting need replacing, plus a striker. Five players for £30 million ? Not sure what quality that would get us. Again it's like Liverpool this season where they've bought a lot of players rather than spending large on one or two. We need quality not quantity.
Can see city wanting bony and bony wanting citeh.. The best would obviously be to keep him forever or at least until summer but Looking at his last couple of performances they've been ok, just not the same commitment as we've seen before.
I didn't say 5 players for £30 million, but that thirty million would help bring in the quality we need. For 30 million, we could bring in two very good wingers and a DM player, while leaving whatever extra funds that Monk would have for a striker and full back. Gomis also looked good when he came on v Liverpool. We might not need to replace Bony. The next 4-5 weeks will show us how good Gomis is,
Fair enough Valley. I think we need to be looking to spend £15million on a striker (but not Balotelli ) if Bony goes. I don't want bargain basement. But as you say - Gomis may flourish with a run in the team next month. Let's hope he doesn't get injured.
Fully agree. If Gomis doesn't cut it then we have to be looking for a striker in the £15 million pound category. That said if Gomis doesn't step up to the mark, I wouldn't mind having a look at someone like Javier Hernandez.
I'm not sure we need two wingers, if Monk was to play Dyer regularly and have a ball playing CDM we'd be fine with the three we have. A DCM was needed all last season when it became obvious Canas was not going to be consistent and we've been screaming out for a left back since Ben was given away. TBH I'm more than happy with Jazz Richards who, when he played with Carol and Fed, has shown his passing is superb. He tackles well and seems to get forward bit more than at the start of the season - work needed on heading but that is a concern across the back four. Considering he's only had half a dozen games, compared Taylor's 30 (ish) since injury, I'd be looking for him to become a regular. I'm looking forward to Gomis showing up a bit more but we still need goals from Montero & someone other than Siggy, maybe the new guy or Michu??? Most of all we need a player who can head the ball. Given how much we rely on Bony to defend set pieces I am even more apprehensive about defending set pieces. On the Bony front - if he is offered Champions League football who is going to stand in his way, especially if the club gets big bucks? Although he's been an outstanding, brilliant, headline making, ambassador, exciting and fun player for us I think it would have to be 'so long and thanks for all the fish'. All good stuff, though
Man City seem to be shying away from Bony because of their fair play fine that sees them only have 49 million to spend for the year .Also , only 16 non homegrown players can be used for Champions League , which they already have , Bony would be #17.
You can never tell who will get bony but man city and Chelsea would be the wrong sort of clubs for a player like him, They both have players sitting on the bench better, No he needs a bigger club like Liverpool,Everton, spurs or the toon to make his mark. All those teams are big but are lacking in quality players, Bony needs to really think about which clubs would give him the game time he needs and avoid the top two sides where he will get limited game time if any at all...
He won't make it at City or Chelsea so he should go to bigger clubs like Everton and NU?? WTF A move to NU or Everton would be a step backwards Dai.
