Boss won’t panic during January window.

City manager insists he won’t bring in players for the sake of it.

Steve Cotterill insists he won’t be panicking during the forthcoming January transfer window.

The City boss was quizzed about the period at his weekly press briefing and was adamant no deals will be sanctioned unless they strengthen the squad sufficiently.

“Last season we were in a much worse position and we made some loan deals to get us through,” Cotterill told bcfc.co.uk.

“By and large those loans worked for us and we finished the season well.

“I don’t think we need to strengthen our squad as much this season.

“We’re top of the table, in the third round of the FA Cup and the area final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. We’d have to go some to improve on the players in our squad now.

“If we can extend the loan deals of Todd (Kane) and Matt (Smith) then that would be great.

“There was probably only one permanent deal we would have done but we’re led to believe that player will now be heading to a Championship club.

“We won’t be held to ransom. We might do some loan business; that might depend on how the injury situation is and only if it’s right for the football club.

“There certainly won’t be any panic here. The January window opens and all these deals get done in a panic, but the emergency loan option is available for the second week of February anyway so it really doesn’t matter.

“I’m relaxed about it all, I really am.”

The loan periods of Chelsea utility man Kane and Fulham striker Smith are due to expire on January 18th and 25th respectively.

Bobby Reid (Plymouth Argyle) and Adam El-Abd (Bury) are currently out on loan until January 3rd and 31st respectively. Wes Burns’ youth loan deal at Oxford United spans for the remainder of the season, albeit with a recall clause included.

We have to put our trust in SC's judgement and his reading of the situation.

I just hope that it won't be a repeat of 2008 when we blew the golden chance of the Prem by buying rubbish and then changing the way we'd played to accommodate Adebola

We will have to improve the depth of squad in the summer though!
We have a good tight squad and we shouldn't make signings just for the sake of it as Cotterill has said. Who was that one signing though?

We will have more buying power with promotion.

Hopefully no one will come for our players!
