With Ashley's Rangers connection I wouldn't be surprised if he gave the job to Ally McCoist!

Q - How funny would it be if talks with Palace break down and the Mags have Pardew, and his excuse book, back at SJP?

    A - Hilarious <laugh>

Pardew is expected to be confirmed as Eagles boss before today's trip to Aston Villa and has around £10m to spend on transfers.

Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis remains his top target, but Villa misfit Darren Bent is also under consideration.

Bent worked with Pardew at Charlton and has scored two goals in five games on loan at Brighton. He is a free agent next summer.

Ashley certainly knows how to torment the Mags doesn't he?

"I know, I'll allow someone to take charge of the team who was offering the daft buggers outside for a fight."

    Only the Mags <laugh>

The thing is Smug, Carver has worked with Pardew and is likely to have had a fair bit of input. If he can keep the mags where they are (or even drop a few places) that`ll be fine.

Forget the fans, they don`t count, but that would be plenty good enough for Ashleys ambitions.

Sadly, and I mean this sincerely, Ashley has totally beaten them into submission, it stinks tbh.

All the bedsheets, protests, walk-outs, websites, consortiums , NUST donations, etc have done absolutely nothing.
In fact they might be counter productive and discourage any prospective buyer.
The other concern is that, just as with Pardew's replacement, the new man may actually be worse.

The Newcastle supporters I talk to have just accepted that they're stuck with Ashley until he loses interest.
As a businessman I'm sure he'd bail out, if there was a good profit, but that's not so easy.

A club with almost 60 years without a current major trophy may look jinxed.
(2015 is the 60th anniversary of the last Wembley celebration, how many on here remember that.)
If Ashley installs Carver then a job that was once proclaimed 'one of the best in world football' will be given to a man who's main attributes are his birthplace and his ability to clench fists & shout at the same time, 'multi-tasking' as they call it on Tyneside.
It shows how little fight the Mags have when some of them are just shrugging and accepting the idea of Carver as manager.

The sensible ones keep supporting their team and sitting tight while hoping Ashley goes soon.

Then there are the bedsheet brigade who turn up, wearing Sports Direct gear, mocking him.
He must rub his podgy hands together and laugh his fat head off.

Thing is though Smug, if it was not for Ashley, financially they'd be down the ****ter.
Freddie left them in a pie hole & Ashley sorted it out.

They`ve tried every which way to get Ashley to sell up and move out but he`s still sat there. As you say, I think most of them now accept they`ve no choice but to wait it out until he decides to up sticks. He`s made it abundantly clear he will not be bullied or pushed.

They`ve done themselves no favours though. A new owner thinking about buying and wondering if the hate brigade might turn on them after a few months is hardly an attractive proposition.

They were staring into an abyss, the sensible Mags will happily admit that the situation was desperate.
Ashley had to pay off over £100 million debt just to get the banks to look at helping.
Administration was being talked about before the Cockney Mafia turned up to save the club.

I knew there was some debt but didn`t realise it was that bad.

The sensible ones always have mate.

There was rising panic before Ashley arrived and the years of overspending were catching up.

There was an insane debt and interest was spiralling out of control with players being paid fortunes for not playing.

Without Ashley the club could've become another Coventry or Portsmouth.

After all, there aren't any other credible buyers, on the scene, either then or now.

Michael Owen was good value for money.
