or the talent. Nobody could get the ball directly into touch off any part of his body better than Jamie. Not even SWP.

I think you have it. I'm still trying to see why some still see Barton in a positive light. I think awjm discovered it for me with his post. I feel that Barton has a bit of 'Stockholm Syndrome' with some of our fans. At least Mackie was a decent bloke, he's on a par ability wise with Barton.

I think Barton has been a great player but seems to be diminishing returns.

I remember seeing him as a 21 year old for City and thinking he was Gerrard-esque. The last time I thought he ran an entire game was for Newcastle. He's played well for us but that seems to fade and this season I haven't seen more than 5 minute bursts of tidy football.

Like im or lothe him, in his day he was a fairly decnt player who had 3-4 good seasons...

Sadly for us he is way past that point and living on his past. The way he is being run ragged by other CM's this and last season clearly shows that.
I honestly think we can cope without him.

the only reason barton runs so much in a game is because he is chasing the ball he has just given to the opposition....

I'd echo that sentiment to you too, Swords Hoopster. Thank you for your kind thoughts.

No chance of that happening. I think the fellow has given up on the not606 forum.

Several times he suggested he would join up for a 'not 606' drink; but for one reason or another never made it. [That said, it took me until the playoff final to finally meet up with others on here and say hello!]

Since then, I guess that most on here - and some 'absent friends' - have since met up, swapped contact details, and thus have these meet ups arranged offline.

As such, I doubt we'll see the fellow; but you never know, he might be there all along, just watching from the corner of the bar! <laugh>

Off the field, I find Barton interesting and intelligent. I know he has a violent past, but people can reform and should be applauded for doing so. On the field, he is in a poor run of form but the role he is playing exposes this more than it would for others. He is not one to hide.

I have absolutely no proof or evidence to back this up, but I sincerely hope that Joey isn't effecting Vargas's confidence by getting on his case. We've seen it before from him and something has definitely changed with Vargas.

It's interesting in the past that when Barton leaves Twitter alone, it has resulted in him upping his game and actually making a real difference.

Well he's just gone and said he's leaving Twitter alone for a while, hopefully it will bring about the same result as before. When he's good, he can be very good, unfirtunately those performances are too few.
