The only real loyalty in football nowadays comes from the fans, with VERY few acceptions players and managers treat it as just a job, and will move on for more money, or for a perceived "better" opportunity.........a player may kiss the badge, but he will soon kiss it goodbye if he gets a better offer..................Cardiff have been victims of this in the past, it happens everywhere Man Utd didn't want Ronaldo to go, but at the end of the day they couldn't keep him...........it's not nice when your club gets screwed, but it is happening more and more regularly and it will continue to happen whilst money rules, no point the fans falling out about it, it's gone well beyond our control.
So should we have a grump at the other clubs that signed players like Mathews, Ledley and whoever signs Jay because they knew their contract were runnin out and they signed them on the cheap (free)?
C'Mon folks (Hornets) - it's hardly a huge secret when a player has his contract running down - they can talk to prospective new clubs in January ready for July FFS! ...and if you want to check the status of any more of your out of contract players, try this: http://www.givemefootball.com/pfa-transfer-list You might want to refer to it as my way of getting 'inside knowledge' I didn't get involved in all the nonsense being posted at the time as I was busy all weekend, but having read some of it over yesterday and this morning...talk about over-reacting? Sure they have a right to feel pissed at their board and at their position at the football table currently, but to blame MM for insider trading...joke! Cheers for the OP though, although you still sound quite bitter and a little off-piste in terms of who is to blame... As has been stated: Bothroyd, Burke, Ledley, Matthews, etc...life goes on, even in football!
I don't blame the board, don't blame the Don and don't even blame Mackay now had time to cool. It's obvious we Watford believed we had an executable contract option to extend by a year whereas it looks like the contract was written that extension would be by mutual consent. The fault then lies with the legal advisor who drew up the contract and advised the board, anyone who thinks a board reads contracts in detail rather than receive summaries and issue directives is deluded (hence the term directors). This issue is closed now anyway, Cardiff have Mackay and his backboys as well as Cowie, we have Dychey and his team and McGinn, Sordell, Deeney, Loach et al and frankly I'm happy. If all Mackay jumped to Cardiff for was to transplant watford players into a four sided stadium and have a few extra quid in his pocket I'd be fuming if I were one of the Malaysians so hopefully he'll be setting his sights at a different set of targets in future. As we do not need the money now if we sell anybody else to Cardiff at less than 3 million I will be calling for blood from the ownership as I believe will GT.
Great point. We'll see the extent of MM, the Malaysians and the club's ambitions come end of the month. Last summer's spending was a bit of a shock after our transfer embargo.
