http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-30614627 Air Asia flight QZ 8501 travelling from Indonesia to Singapore has gone missing - reports on BBC Hope and pray all is ok for all concerned. Another Malaysian plane. Tony will be very distracted.
Indonesian media say 162 people were on board. The aircraft, flight number QZ8501, lost contact with air traffic control at 07:24 (00:24 GMT), AirAsia tweeted. The company said that search and rescue operations were under way for the missing plane. An official with the transport ministry, Hadi Mustofa, told local media the plane lost contact over the Java Sea, which lies between Surabaya and Singapore. He said the plane had asked for an unusual route before it lost contact. The missing plane is an Airbus A320-200. AirAsia have given few other details. "At the present time we unfortunately have no further information regarding the status of the passengers and crew members on board, but we will keep all parties informed as more information becomes available," a company statement said.
This is an Indonesian plane, operated by Indonesia AirAsia. Indonesia AirAsia is part of the AirAsia Group, a subsidiary of the AirAsia parent company who own 49%. Indonesia AirAsia is run from Indonesia separately from the parent company.
The latest details say that the pilot mentioned bad weather and ask for a higher flight path just before losing contact ...........
Agree with you for once Yappy, but unfortunetly with Indonesia having a large Muslim population and recent "islamist " activities there the usual theories will no doubt surface as usual in cases like this, and until the plane is found or more information becomes available the usual conspiracy nuts and anti-muslim loonies will be spreading bulls**t on all available media sites. All we can do is pray that the aircraft is found and no folks lose their lives, so prayers and thoughts with all on board regardless of nationality and religion and with their families at this sad time.
Sky News Breaking - Air Asia confirm that ATC have lost contact with a flight from Indonesia to Singapore. More as it happens.
Fernandes has already tweeted on it, 'hopes and prayers' etc. This airline was banned from flying to the EU until 2010 because of safety concerns. Hopefully not as bad as it looks, but that is rarely the case with airline incidents.
My apologies, Just got up and saw the news but didn't see this thread. I'd merge but the tools don't seem to be working.
I feel for them. I'm in the aviation business and had meetings with Air Asia Indonesia in Jakarta just over a month ago, lovely people and a good airline. Let's hope for the best, but it doesn't sound good. Tony will be distraught as the CEO.
All Indonesian airlines, apart from Garuda, are banned from the EU. It's more an issue with the local Aviation Authority rather than the individual airlines. Air Asia is known as a safe operation.

Very difficult for Tony and Air Asia. Respect needed at this time. Its looks like weather issues. Thoughts with those on the flight and the families
Suggest you look up "ANTI " in your dictionary.....................................!!!!!!!!! ANTI as in not PRO. As in not a lover of, As in a hater of, As in a rascist point of view of, As in the fact certain people will automatically conclude that " THE ISLAMIST'S DID IT "
I dont think anybody should suggest anything. Just try and find out the truth of whats happened first.
