Well unless they sack him and give a new manager cash or let BR spend then i can't see us being in the champions league for the forserable future. With the new BT deal whoever qualifies for the CL will have a distinct advantage over the teams that don't on top of whatever financial advantages they already have. Imo it is this year or bust, and the players we have at the moment arent good enough for the CL.
Well we p1$$ ed up the wall the money from the sale of Suarez and squandered the CL opportunity. Only hope we have of CL qualification this season is through winning EL ......fat chance. We missed our opportunity to gain on Citeh, Chelski and Manure financially and missed the opportunity to attract world class players. Not a great position we find ourselves in under Brendan.
No more cash for rodgers and none for the new manager, if there will be one?! I beleive we have the right young players for the next five years if, we can get to keep them, and devellop them to be world beaters ie(suarez, stturidge) We have some wonderfull players, we only need some accute manager\coach to get the best out of them! Quite few managers done it in other leagues(u cangoogle it if u want) not gonna name them, so here hoping that brendan opens his eyes
Sticking it out with just them will see them move on. Youth is great but they need guidance and ambition.
We have experience though Toure Skrtel lucas Gerrard Lambert. We have lots of players under 25... Should be going for players in mid 20s now to gradually take over from Those above and help the younger a
Totally agree but the comment I responded to said stick with the youngsters for five years. The older guys you mentioned will be long gone by then
The only one that can guide the younger players out of them is Gerrard (and possibly Toure but he comes across as a bafoon so he's unlikely). When we're talking about "experienced" older players guiding younger players at a big club, it's players who have won things bcos that's the experience we want them to pass on. It's about guiding youngsters to understand what it's like to go through a season long, trophy winning campaign both on and off the pitch (much more than their individual game which will be coached anyway). You still need a compliment of big names to come in and supplement your youth for partly that reason.
We were awful today. I understand the whole "experience" stuff but in reality it was a general unwillingness to work, press and front up today It's the same every away day or any day a not big club plays us.... I predicted 1-1 with us struggling this morning and it almost game to pass I refuse to believe only players who have won things can lead others to win things I think in general you need leadership from the top not accepting second best off the players (manager) and then up to them to lern from the swings and roundabouts and hard times to drive them on Some players need to be dropped sometimes mingolet got his, but in the end if others are left in then it's not enough The thought however that a "big name" can inspire is true however 10 kids or one top player? I'd sign the top player
How about a mix of both? I wasn't talking about today's game, just in response to Alaneka and Bis talking about the next 5 years. I can only look at the influence of players like Giggs, Scholes, Keane, and even the likes of OShea, Butt etc on newcomers like Carrick, Fletcher, Ronaldo, Rooney during the late 2000's which built their character in going through long campaigns such as league titles and cup competitions. There's no doubt it had a massive influence in our continued success. And now those players are there to guide younger players as seasoned professionals. You can see it elsewhere, for example the likes of Barcelona talk about the impact Edgar Davids brought to their midfield before the likes of Ronaldhino came in and flourished.
With Rodgers we will just be a feeder club for Citeh or Chelski. All our developing youth will just bugger off for CL football.
At International level many teams are 10 average players and 1 superstar and as long as the team are set up well and all play with passion the team can do well. This is unsustainable at club level though. A squad needs balance. If a star player tries to lead a league campaign by himself he will burn out. Sterling has had to do far more than his usual share on the pitch this season to make up for others struggles and it has exhausted him at times, mentally and physically. Players like Lallana add good maturity to the team and will always stand up beside his captain. Young players who play to much early in their careers also often turn into injury prone players during their peak years. The best examples are Owen and Walcott. So if we put to much emphasis on young players they and we may miss out on their best years.
you are right in that international is not actually a standard any more. having caps is no clue as to talent like it used to be. For LFc to be jam packed full of internationals (not your point) it doesn't mean they are any good so yes... sterling come fab or march might do an owen. right now he looks ok leading the line but he could make a sprint tear his hamstring and never be right... who knows. lallana is one trick but he is doing "Ok" but he only started really playing at 1-0. coutinho and markovic were poor. again two yuong lads............ cheslea stuck in mikel v stoke then return to oscar v west ham... horses v courses... tactics... whatever you want to ay. LFC had badontelly but never used him. i finally want to say diver-rat is right... arsenal have tried this muck about having worldie youths and building a side... they have had 8 years barren with consistent desertions and frankly they were a feeder club. now they are buying big... clichy, sagna, hleb, fabregas, song, the list goes on.... they now have a good mix of players and while they are bad compared to the required standards they have some real players if they keep fit. ramsey... sanchez, ozil, ox.......... our team aint up to matching them therefore getting 4th is very much out of reach
