Getting the best out of Whitts is going to be the key. The guy himself knows his own limitations as admitted in this interview quote on WOL today. "Iâve never had pace, so thatâs not an issue. Overall, I like to think Cardiff fans have accepted me. I give everything I have in every game, although I accept that with my playing style it doesnât always look that way on the pitch. Just because I donât go around slide tackling opposition players from 15 yards away doesnât mean I am not totally committed. I care about Cardiff City and I want our team to be successful. That is incredibly important to me. There is never a time when I donât do my best for the team." The problem seems to be that only the supporters can see the need for a change to get best out of him - Slade's 2 up top and 4 man midfield seems cast in stone. At Charlton today we should see an acceptance that a 5 man midfield is the only way Whitts can function at his best within the limits of our current squad. If both Noone and Harris start, there should only be room for one up front and that should be Jones. I'd even prefer one of those two wide men were sacrificed to the bench to get someone like Adeyemi in from the start, but we need 5 in there please Mr. Slade.
Charlton captain Johnnie Jackson has an outside chance of returning from a calf problem which has kept him out of the last two matches. Left-back Rhoys Wiggins (foot), winger Franck Moussa (knee), goalkeeper Stephen Henderson and striker Simon Church (both shoulder) are all out. Cardiff striker Kenwyne Jones could start after he came off the bench to score in the loss to Brentford. Winger Anthony Pilkington (hamstring) is not yet ready to return. Head-to-Head • The last meeting ended as a goalless draw at the Cardiff City Stadium in April 2013. • Cardiff have won only one of the last six meetings. Their only win since 1985 was 2-0 at home in the Championship in October 2008. • Charlton have won two of the last three meetings at The Valley, drawing the other. Cardiff's last win there was 4-1 in the old Division Two in March 1985. Charlton • Charlton have won only one of their last nine games. Their only win since 21 October was 1-0 at Reading on 8 November. • Charlton have lost only one of their 12 home games in all competitions this season. Their only defeat at The Valley was 1-0 against Ipswich on 29 November. Cardiff • Cardiff have not won any of their last three games, losing the last two. Their last win was 1-0 at Watford on 29 November. • That win at Watford is Cardiff's only win in their 11 away games in the Championship this season.
Well Adeyemi gets a call up in place of Harris to bolster the midfield. That's a decent shout but still two up top is Slade's mantra. At least Macheda's on the bench if we need a target man. 01 Marshall 02 Brayford 36 Morrison 06 Turner 12 John 17 Gunnarsson 18 Adeyemi 07 Whittingham 11 Noone 10 Le Fondre 09 Jones Substitutes 03 Fabio 05 Ecuele Manga 14 Macheda 16 Connolly 21 Ralls 33 Moore 40 Harris
Charlton get a man sent off for going in studs up and Nooney went down as a result. Being treated but looks OK. EDIT - Noone has a gashed ankle but should be able to carry on.
Brentford stuck 3 past us in the first half away from home - now they playing at home are 3-0 down at half time to Ipswich - what a division this is.
If anyone else is listening to this on CC Player, try clicking on the Charlton commentary instead. The City guys will send you to bloody sleep (Shep not there today), but the Charlton guys are far more enthusiastic - enjoying the game far more listening to them.
They're down to 10 men and have got 58% possession - WTF are we allowing them to control this? They have just hit the post and Charlton are well on top - we are sounding very shaky.
Goal for Charlton and the get what they deserve - they are playing with passion and are showing us how to do it.
10 man team playing all the football Another capitulation Will we ever see some fight from these ****ers
Not just outplayed - out-managed as well. Peeters made tactical changes that changed the game - Slade put Harris on for Le Fondre. The Slade/Young influence on this side has got to end. We are hopeless at a 90 minute game - we do not have a clue how to change things around. I'm just waiting for Slade's post match comments on this one - the man is a bloody joke manager.
Its not going to change. Im starting to think Tan is trying to goad the fans into a reaction so he can make his excuses to get out with as much as he can. Fabio and Manga on the bench. I expect both to be sold in January. We need 19 more points I reckon. Could be hard work getting them.
This was another Reading gamed all over. A man advantage for the whole second half and we retreated like scared rabbits. The possession stats say it all................ 10 man Charlton 60% - full strength Cardiff 40% - they completely outplayed us in the second half after Peeters made his changes. Forget the "sticking together" noises from the players - Slade and Young are completely out of their depth and the squad has no direction. They may not be the best squad around as we've been asked to believe, but they are far better than this football we're being dished up by those two clowns.
