Hell Dai that's a bit OTT! I expect Emnes to come of age with Bony away, I don't see Gomis doing anything to write home about, but would love to be proved wrong on this!.................
I see him capable of both positions, though he technically is a Striker, and I think he's better there too, though I'd love to see him given a run of games sitting behind Bony.
The one thing that was pretty obvious against Hull was that Emnes covered more ground and created more opportunities in the brief time that he was on than Gomis did in the whole game. Emnes does not have to play as a classic CF - he is not Bony, but he has his own strengths.
I don't know if I'm alone in thinking this, but Emnes for me is an impact player and not someone to start 5-6 games upfront.
Emnes as a starter up front would force a different approach on the rest of the team. He is not Bony and would need to be played to differently. As a stand-in he would be fine if, and IF, we can adjust to play to his strengths. We're struggling to do that with Gomis - either that or Gomis doesn't have clear strengths.
Fair point TLF and I'm not exactly sure myself. Also, he's been saying for a while in the local press, according to them pesky Benficistas again, that he is not happy when he doesn't start a game and that he wants more 'play' time. They don't think the well coiffured Jorge Jesus likes him much but he wont sell him either. It almost seems like the Benfica supporters appreciate him more than the management does. Bit of an odd situation going on there I think TLF, but lets hope he works out for us.
Yes i agree with you valley, He is better coming off the bench than starting the game. he would be useless as a lone striker and is better playing behind the striker.
We'll see more of Emnes in January, yes. On the wing and behind the striker in my view. Without Bony, and if Gomis is on the bench, who the hell is going to clear our corners?!?! It's a small part of the game, but the amount of corners that these boys clear is huge to us not conceding more sloppy goals from set pieces. It's one reason why I don't think we'll see Emnes upfront unless we're up against a 'small' (in size, not club size) club.

We'll find out soon enough what he's made of Trunds. Let's hope Monk has pulled another master stroke in the transfer window.
