Agree with that. Our track record is not too good on striker acquisitions either. Pintado, Kuqi, Beattie .... to name a few. Moore was indifferent in posture and production. Borini did well as a loanee.
Borini is surplus to requirements at Anfield, surely he is what we need, if the rumours are correct we should make him a target, he'd be wasted at Sunderland.
Fits Monk's desire to sign players with something to prove rather than older players looking for a final payday
No Borini is a mercenary who is only interested in money. Otherwise he'd have gone to Sunderland. We don't need that sort out f attitude.
All of Monks signing so far have been good so I'll hold judgement and give him a chance. He signed him very quickly, so that must mean something.
Gomis will be the man for us. forget all this talk about palace he is wanted here and wont be going anywhere..the signs were there against hull that he can do the job once his team mates get use to his movements, You never know it might be that Bony could find it hard to regain his place if Gomis starts scoring regular...
Hell man chill will you! They are all mercenary to a greater or lesser degree, back of the class for you, must do better................
I like Gomis, and Oliveira certainly hasn't been signed to replace Gomis. He's cover for Gomis for tactical reasons and in case of injury. You can't play with one recognised striker in your squad. Oliveira knows that he's backup. You look at the career scoring records of Bafétimbi and Bony and he knows he's well up against it here. Onto the loan deal - it seems shrewd. He's got potential and is still very young. He's played and scored at all levels for Portugal, which is a good achievement for a 23 year old. It's a good signing. He's not been prolific at any club yet, but as a young striker, sometimes you just have to find your team. I certainly think he'll have more about him than Shechter and Vasquez. Fingers crossed it's a lot more and not just a little!
But we don't need Borini (no disrespect, but he ain't good enough for the level we are aspiring to get to). If he wanted to play first team football he'd have gone to Sunderland. Shows how good he is when he can't even get a kick for Liverpool when BR would rather start Sterling up top. He's happy enough to sit on the bench at Anfield (or not get selected at all) and I'm happy enough for it to remain that way.
Let the lad kick a ball in anger for us then judge him, looking at the recent Club signings who's been a dud ? Gomis I believe will come good given a run of games ,Carroll a good bit of business .Ki is probably playing his best since he's been here .Fab ,what can you say other than he's class. Monero a big future either with or without us & the common denominator is Monk .I'll reserve judgement until I see what he can offer , he's a loan deal so it's not as if we're committed to him long term which as previously posted makes good sense with the January transfer window being a free for all with panic buying and inflated fees.
In monk i trust. He may have made the best loan signing we have ever made with this benfica lad. Both Manchester clubs and Chelsea were keen on him but he had a £24m buy out clause so he must be something special. Why he is not playing now is a mystery but you can say the same about half of the above teams players. If he is a good finisher then both bony and gomis could end up on the bench....
Doesnt mean he is anygood. I want to prove I am good enough for a game as well and I will only cost £200 a week. NS not trying to be flipant but the signing smacks of signing for signing sake as Bony away for a month. I actually believe Emnes may well have been a tidy option aas the cover, Vazquez was young and hungry also but totally sh1te. I think Dai said look at the players that cant get in the Chelsea side. Thats very true but Benfica are in the same area interms of class as ourselves. They play in a league with 2 other teams Porto and Sporting. I really hope he does well, it is just our past records with loaning strikers isnt good and on that note can I add Ngog to that list as well.
I look at it thinking that he can't be no worse than Scheter, Vasquez or N'Gog. All of Monks signings have been good so far, hopefully this kid can do us a decent job. On the plus side, if he's a dud, then Gomis can lead the line for a month then Bony will be back. Is Donnelly still injured? Time for him to go out on loan or move on now.
Mate realisticly it cant do any harm. If he works its a great signing if he fails then we send him back. I really hope it works. But get excited come january window and always seem to be deflated at the end of it. Should be used to it by now.
Agree. Hopefully Monk will also bring in a fullback and a DM. I still think we need a bit more bite in midfield at times.
We can't afford £30/40 million pound players so I think Monk is right to take a punt on younger players with something to prove in the hope we can find an uncut diamond. As stated if they don't make it when on loan we send them back e.g. Vasquez.
We cant really say we have been deflated for the last 6 seasons with the position we are in now. We had a bit of a scare last season but we came through it well. We have been monitoring this guy for a long time but the £24m buy out clause was to much for us and still is..So for monk to use this time to our advantage could be something special. .We will see how he adapts to our style soon enough but fair play to show his keenness in coming early to start training with his new team mates, I think we may have done one of our famous master strokes with this...
