Newcastle is a settlement. A settlement by definition provides a purpose and therefore a service.

Before you go accusing others of not understanding, perhaps it would be best you understood things fully first?

I doubt it's simply the name, the lad isn't that naive imo.

But I'm sure he'll put you straight.

Newcastle Airport is not a radio station that represents the region but an aerodrome in Ponteland..

PS..We also don't pay a licence fee for this airport, and all I'm saying is that a BBC "REGIONAL" radio station should have a name that represents the whole region and not just one small part of it...
I'm quite sure that if they changed the name to Radio Sunderland there would be a massive outcry from north of the Tyne..

Christ knows why radio Newcastle commentates on your games anyway, they very rarely do ours. You've got a radio sunderland haven't you?

There is no BBC Radio Sunderland. Neither is there a BBC Radio Washington, BBC Radio Gateshead, BBC Radio Chester-le-Street, BBC Radio Durham

I stand corrected, it's sun fm as Whitey points out. Still don't know why they do your games though, they rarely do ours.

That's because Ashley got greedy so the station told him to **** off. Us on the other hand came to an agreement. Why? **** knows it's ****e.

I listened to the derby on it, and I think they had the Toon perspective on a different wave lenght or digital radio or some other ****e. Coz they had the Irish geezer on it.

I thought they'd stopped. Or was that another station? At one point neither Sunderland or Newcastle were getting commentary but we came to agreement.

If we play at the same time, I'm sure they cover yours rather than ours.

BTW, you can have Shotton airport if you want. I don't think they do long haul though. <ok>

BBC Radio Newcasle, it does what it says on the tin, only badly, it is a disgracefully biased name for a regional station, nationally funded propaganda outlet for TYNE and wear, prononced where? (pun)
I also refuse to use the Tyne and Wear nonsense imposed by Heath and his ilk, and stick to good old Co. Durham in my address whenever I am asked for it. We-are Sunderland, we-are Sun-der-land. <applause>

Ah, right. When I don't go to a game I always watch on the computer now. Very rarely listen to the wireless.

    Somb, you're having a mare mate <laugh>

I notice the rivalry in Liverpool is avoided by calling the station BBC Radio Merseyside and not 'Liverpool'.

The problem doesn't arise with BBC Manchester, Bristol, etc but they avoid having a 'Birmingham' station.

Perhaps it's deliberate and perhaps not, dunno really.
