So following up on a good idea over on the blue side by cjs, I have done an analysis of the teams at the top of league 1 for the last 10 years at Christmas and what their final position was, who was the Champion team and ended up in the top spot. Season...........Top Spot at Christmas.........Final Position.........Champions. 2004/5...........Luton................................01.........................Luton.. 2005/6...........Swansea...........................06.........................Southend.. 2006/7...........Sc**thorpe........................01.........................Sc**thorpe.. 2007/8...........Swansea...........................01.........................Swansea.. 2008/9...........Leicester...........................01.........................Leicester.. 2009/10.........Leeds................................02.........................Norwich.. 2010/11.........Brighton............................01.........................Brighton.. 2011/12.........Charlton............................01.........................Charlton.. 2012/13.........Tramere............................11.........................Doncaster.. 2013/14.........Brentford...........................02.........................Wolves..... 2014/15.........Bristol City.........................??.........................?????????? So 6 out of 10 teams at Christmas ended up Champions and got promoted, 2 others ended up 2nd and got promoted and 2 failed, we have had an 8 out of 10 success ratio for the last 10 years of promotion for the team that was in top spot at Christmas.. I'm not saying anymore....
I will answer that! 4 teams made it 3 as champs 1 as 2nd champs were 07 scunny : 08 swans ; 14 wolves : 05 hull 2nd finished 2nd in 2011 fished 11th 2011 sheff wed finished 15th the rest ( 4 ) were all top 6
i just want automatic promotion, obviously id prefer as champions, but the play offs are a brilliant way via wembley, only if you ............win!
CJS famously put on the banter site on NLBRS page about the amount of teams that go down after being bottom on xmas day.. look what happened.
Makes one wonder if JFG can drag up any stats for this scenario. NLBR were only in the bottom two positions (relegation places) for around ten minutes in the whole season. Are there any instances of team(s) that spent all of the season in a promotion spot, only to lose out on automatic promotion in the last ten minutes of the season? PS. It does not bear thinking about.
tranmere and Sheff both had long periods at top then blew it Sheff utd went from game 24 -to 45 then lost in the playoff's!
Lan Logger CJS famously put on the banter site on NLBRS page about the amount of teams that go down after being bottom on xmas day.. look what happened. Best if you don't buck the trend again this season! ROD Didn't Rovers go a whole season in the top six until the last game of the season once? Under Don Megson Rovers went 27 games of the season before losing a game (Notably beat Brian Clough's Brighton 8-2 away) They were promoted but not as Champions In the fifties they were in the promotion spot until the last few games of the season. Geoff Bradford was injured and out for the end of the season which probably cost them promotion.
We need reinforcements next month,i am 100% sure of that,we are struggleing to get through the ten players behind the ball. SL and SC hopefully have it all sorted for next month.
