You will never buy Dom Perignon from a wholesaler for £30.

Try Laphroaig, my mate has a 30 year old single malt we cracked open recently.

    Currently £1.5k a bottle.

If famous grouse even remotely resembles the taste of these fine whiskys you talk of, it'll be a waste of money and booze on me. I think the stuff is absolutely rotten (grouse).

I don't really like any spirits to be honest.

It was £30, he was allowed to buy his own supply through work, and I had a few bottles off him myself over time.

    No ****. £30 a bottle.

This thread is being hijacked by whisky snobs.

We need more talk of snowballs, campari, pernot, skol, advocaat, taboo, asti spumante, mateus, babycham, blue nun and such like.

    True Christmas classics.

Could be tempted with a bottle or two of Babysham for my brandy.

I love Islay & Laphroaig is one of the best, but heavily peated malts like that with all the iodine imparted by the seaweed used as part of the malting process puts off even some of the most hardy malt lovers, personally I love it & if you can get a decent aged version at cask strength it truly is the nectar of the gods

No it's not, the taste is as I said ruined by the addition of cheap grain spirit, try The Macallan 25 matured in Sherry casks, so smooth, if you don't like that then you won't like any single malt

As I used to work for the company that manufactured Babycham, I can't help but correct the spelling! Sorry!

Just got a case of Lambrini for the mrs.

Been in Aldi in Scunny. **** me how fast do those cashiers process ya!! Without wanting to dredge up history but no wonder the Germans could process so many Jews, kinell talk about organised. (I know the staff are English) actually mine was a teutonic blue eyed polish blonde-cold and ruthless. Some blokes pay to be treat like that.

Got a bottle of Argy Malbec, recommended on here, bypassed the dessert wine. The Chateau Neuf du pape is £10.99 didnt bother. Got some Murphys Stout and a case of Bud for 6 quid. Cant stand the stuff but the mrs'll drink it.

Sounds like we have very similar whisky tastes. I've toured all eight Islay distilleries, but also have Clynelish and Springbank amongst my favourites. You're right about the whisky snob thing too - they don't exist. Snobbery is reserved purely for the wine 'connoisseur'.

Called in there this afternoon and queried this, (whilst buying a 12 bottle mixed case). It is not officially up for sale but you're right in that Barry(?? - the old guy running it) is thinking of retiring next year so may be selling it then.

Tesco was sold out of chateuneuf du pape. Got some fancy Cotes du Rhone instead half price at £6. Just the one bottle as I've never tried it before. What's it like?

Not so keen on Springbank as there is a hint of saltiness to many of their malts
