I've put together a little video I'd like to get your feedback on - link at the bottom - however, the question really is should every United fan know who Duncan Edwards is? For me the most important player in our great history and one who defines what United are all about - youth, passion, courage, talent.

No other club has the history we have and what a story it's been. From hope to tragedy, to the resurrection and the years in the wilderness. It's biblical in a sense and without wanting to go down that path Edwards and the Babes are where it all began.

Hopefully the video will introduce a few more fans to a great history. Thoughts and comments appreciated. Does knowing the history make you a real United fan?

Yes, it does and yes, they should.

Football did not start with the inception of the premier league and Manchester United certainly didn't.

Not that you'd think it half the time.

Most UTD fans will know who he is (not the plastics) but the real fans.

Nothing like a tragic early death to promote hyperbole though is there?

You could just about defend that crass remark if it wasnt for the fact 7 other players also died a tragic early death in that plane crash. All were remembered including Tommy Taylor, one of the best forwards, club and country had seen or the others I could list from the defending champions. You could try to question Edwards ability if it wasnt for the fact that given the circumstances, he was singled out by his peers, some being legends of the game for the natural talent he was. As it is though, you just come across like an ignorant c*** <ok>

You've summed up your entire fanbase in one ignorant sentence.

You will find fans of all clubs who hold the same opinion. There isn't too much video of him around, the best we have is the match reports.

I think it was more about the natural talent and the maturity he showed with it at such a young age. In that respect they describe him as the best they'd seen, not necessarily that he was the best player. That's the impression I get at least from the interviews I remember.

My comment wasn't meant to offend, just commenting on how people tend to romanticise people who die early in promising careers. See also dean, cobain, Morrison etc.

I'm sure he was a fabulous player but at 21 a bit early to use the term best ever etc.

According to my grandad, yes. According to many who lived back then, yes.

I cant say simply because i wasnt there. Nobody here was. He only played 4 years as a pro i believe but in that tine he made a huge impact on both United and England.

Edwards is singled out above some of the best players of the time by his peers and fans of the game.

He was already a top player at 21, and would have probably been in the top 10 in the world, if he had lived.

Only ******s say Cobain, Morrison were greats, the rest of us say they were not bad.

Yeah, I too have heard all of the praise heaped on DE but like you, I have never seen much footage of him. That's why I asked to see if there is anyone here who would have seen him play. Comparing him against Best and Giggs seems the natural thing to do, especially if someone on here is lucky enough to have seen all three of them play.

I've never heard of them, but I heard of DE at a young age. Kind of says it all with regards to how highly rated he was.

I suspect not. United since 63 is the oldest of us i think. Well except for king eric who is 206 years of age.

Bloody shame. Would be great to hear the opinion of someone who has seen all three play.
