Cristiano Ronaldo statue erected at his own museum in Madeira

Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to his hometown of Funchal on the island of Madeira for the unveiling of a 3.4m statue of himself.
"This is a very special moment, to have a statue of me," the 29-year-old said.
The statue is part of Ronaldo's personal museum, housing mementos and awards from his career including his two Ballon D'Or titles, awarded to him as the world's best player in 2008 and 2013.
The former Manchester United attacker, who lifted the Club World Cup with his current club on Saturday, is favourite to win the 2014 accolade in January.
He has scored 34 goals in 27 games for club and country this season.
"Ronaldo has never forgotten his origins," added his mother, Dolores Aveiro.

At least he's got the ability to back it up on the field.

Sadly Ben Arfa thinks he's as good as him.

The Opta stats say the statue has covered more ground than Ben Arfa, apparently.

Jesus. My first thoughts were that it must be a museum that the people of his home town have established and he's just opening it, but no - he's actually created it himself! Worracunt!

You have to wonder what TFT would have created if he had Ronaldo's ability at anything.

I'd like to see statues of Altidore, Graham, Proschwitz and Sagbo at the front of the KC. I would sit there all day watching the pigeons $h!tt!ng on them.

In a profession that society deems so worthy he is currently the best in the world.

Unless you have his talent, wealth, fame and stature then its hard to criticise, I think most people would struggle to be humble in his position.

Well thanks Casty, that made me laugh! <laugh>

He's the sort of player that's won a lot of stuff. He has lots of memorabilia. Whether you like it or not, he's a role model to millions and to lots of kids as well. He's idolised, and you know what, he deserves it, he is good enough.

The fact he's set this up where he comes from, so the people who know him, and love him can see all this stuff, and it will attract tourists to the area...well played.

Some footballers piss their money away, some sniff it up their noses or hand it over to bookies, stop being so snobby over this, its a great thing he's done.

Personally I dont view it as arrogance when everything he thinks about himself is true. He's the best player on the planet and far lesser individuals have had statues made of them.

There's an Ernie Wise statue not that far from my house....
