Was an accident, did you hear the commentary after it though? Neville was saying "you'll do that if you can get away it" - I was thinking are you ****ing serious? A quick head stamp if no one notices is ok? Vile ****.
hmm.......hearing more and more of this sort of stuff from ex-professionals with roles in the media. Talking about cynical, nasty challenges but using phrases such as 'he's taken one for the team' when he gets booked or its a 'good' foul to make because its stopped a possible breakaway. I don't want to see that sort of stuff on a football pitch regardless of shirt colour. Its anti-football.
About the game... Very odd one. Like a twitchy teen almost losing a knife fight to a wily octogenarian. We deserved the win in all aspects but one. That all-important composure that comes with maturity.
I've seen it four times now - total accident. Yes, in that final split second he did glance down where his foot was going, but unless he was David Blain he couldn't just levitate or fly away. More worrying is that he (legally) bullied the **** out of Skrtel all afternoon. I suspect he targeted his man - Toure or Sakho would have given back as good as they got. Skrtel looked terrified all day long. I'd like to see Lambo put in a shift or two like that when called upon. Not pretty, and not our usual game (or Arsenal's), but good to have in your options kitbag.
Bravado. Never seen Neville do that, but many of them are capable of leaving their elbow in someone's face (gerrard's done it many times down the years). My favourite trick, when playing full back, was that as I was normally shorter than most forwards I'd jump slightly underneath then and 'accidentally' elbow them in the ribs. Got one bruiser who'd forearmed me in the back of the head rightn in the bread basket and he puked up there and then. I always looked suitably concerned afterwards. Never dreamt of stamping on someone's head though, not deliberately.
All part of the game.. football isn't all about attackers. It annoys me as a defender that you're not allowed to tackle anymore. Not proper tackle anyway. Gone are the days where you could go through your winger after 10 minutes of the game and cleanly win the ball but wipe them out to put that doubt in their mind about the next time they're in a 50/50 with you. Now, you have to stand off and it gives all the advantage to the forward.
Nothing wrong with an honest hard tackle, but this is about really cynical stuff that deliberately breaks up play and slows the game down. Tugging shirts, deliberate obstructions, taking the player out with no intention of getting the ball. And then ex-professionals telling the viewing public its ok
Yup, nothing wrong with that. If a team are breaking on you and it's 4 v 2, take them out on the half way line, take the yellow card and get back in position. Our team don't do it often enough and it's so frustrating.
We prefer to wait and make the foul within twenty yards of our goal. We're confident about dealing with the set pieces you see
Nothing new. He only ever looks convincing against smaller targets (apart from Debuchy) but he is soft as sh*t. The likes of Giroud and Sanchez both kept swapping to try and target Skrtel instead of Sakho.
As mentioned by others - it's a part of the game. Winners aren't nice guys. They have to be ruthless and more often than not, they're hated. Suarez was an absolute c*nt on the pitch but teams need that attitude - win at all costs. We have far too many pansies in this team.
What a bunch of harda*ses This cynicism has been all figured long time ago, but brawn and brains are required to implement it with conviction. Yet, when a Mourinho or a Pulis come along, you're all too quick to cry shame.
Sure, but I still got a spare room in my cottage for you and daughter. Come over if you can make time, I'm sure you won't be able to hack Bristol for more than a day or two.
Still a total **** as per usual! Glad to see some things haven't changed. Still don't know or get your game when it comes to LFC. One moment you back the lot, next you have a go at the lot. Strange one you are!
