Large and medium ones that have been in my neighborhood this year would be Black Bears, Bobcats, Mountain Lions, Coyotes, and Grey Foxes. We have Rattlesnakes, Raccoons, Opossums and Ring-tailed Cats in my neighborhood as well but since most are nocturnal you rarely see them. We have a bunch of types of Hawks, Falcons, Owls and two kinds of Eagles here to. There are a couple Wolverines that are an hour away in the mountains surrounding Lake Tahoe but they wont come down this far. We had our first Wolf return to Cali a couple years ago and it started a new pack near the border. They expect that we will have wolves in most of the Sierras in a decade or so as the Wolves in Oregon spread south. They are also considering reintroducing Grizzles in parts of the Sierras but even if it happened that wouldnt happen for a decade or so.

Fez...can you tell me if the Spanish City amusement park still exists in Whitley Bay ? Spent many a summer's day as a kid spending my granddad's money in that haven from the rain in the late 50's & early 60's. I remember Dire Straits singing about it in "Tunnel of Love" much later, but wondered if it was still in operation these days. edit: just googled it..says it fell into disrepair & was closed, but a regeneration program was launched in 2011. Any developments on that front do you know ?

I have attached a decent link that doesn't have any real updates that I am aware of. They have worked on the infrastructure around the site for a few years and it is spick and span. The work on refurbishment, using a Heritage Grant of £3.7M, commences in the Spring; it will be a cultural centre, which is something that will enhance the newly revamped sea-front. I used to live just down the coast at Tynemouth and used to run, with my dogs, along the prom or beach through Cullercoats, Whitley Bay (past the Spanish City), to St Mary's Lighthouse and then back - a cracking run that changed with the weather in so many ways. If you ever got to Roker Park (football ground, which is gone), they have used European Funding to regenerate the promenade along from the Harbour to the entrance to the park at Roker, known as Roker Park. There is some wonderful regeneration taking place in the North East, I just wish Hull would get it's fair share. I will keep you up-to-date with developments - The Spanish City is a wonderful building and I look forward to taking my grandchildren to it. If this disrupts this thread, perhaps a Mod would move it, if it becomes necessary.
