I think its fair enough personally if there is a significant net cost to hosting it, all benefits considered. Hull City Council are probably about to embark on their seemingly annual job cut process as the money from central government continues to be cut at a higher rate than most other councils. Pissing money away on cycling while they are cutting social care staff and other emotive essential services could be seen as being misguided. Who knows where the truth lies though financially on this event. I agree with the above. Hull City Council is on its last legs. Its only a matter of years before everything is contracted out to external service companies. These new companies won't be "mismanaged" as they'll look after themselves first, not the Hull resident.

Cycling events never pay for themselves instantly as its usually free to watch sport so there is no way of charging people to see it go past, but in the long term it should attract people to Hull and benefit the local economy for the future and on the day because of the large footfall of people.

I don't live in Hull at the moment and probabaly never will again but I love my home city and cannot believe the council so run so badly they cannot compete with Selby Council and Wakefield Met. Look at the businesses in the city, we will probably see Smith & Nephew, Siemens, Reckitts etc all sponsoring this amazing opportunity, just a shame they can't do the event on their own doorstep. People wonder why Allam spat his dummy out... I would lose the will to live having to deal with those in the Guildhall too... Geraghty should be paxman'd as to why he passed up on this! Maybe if they sold a loss making sporting venue in the city, they could be a bit more pro - active in encouraging events with a greater return on investment. Do they own any loss making venues in the city I wonder? Sounds like politics to me!
These hull based 'external' companies which HCC create have tended to be quangos with the same mismanagement clowns from Guildhall running them, eg KWL, Hull Telephones and Hull City Leisure for instance. The Hull Trinity have their noses in every trough, and unless there is a radical change in the real management of Hull, my home city, of which I was once a proud resident will continue to decline. Go West Young man. It's your only chance of prosperity!
