I knew what you meant Stroller & I was just being pedantic as you stated "Arsenal have 4/5ths of a penalty area more than us"! The dimensions I gave increased the width of the goal by four yards! Possibly so that we had players other than Charlie that could score! IMO the width of the pitch is more relevant than the length, but as most sides only use approx. 65 yards for most of the match, that has less bearing on the game than it did at one time. Make our pitch 5 yards longer than Arsenal's, & SWP etc. would still struggle to keep the ball in play after their "heavy" first touch!
Showing ones age, but I recall the pitch being a good 2 - 3 yards longer at each end than the current one. When we had terracing behind both goals the pitch was only 5 feet or so from the boundary wall and it stayed that way for a while when the existing stands were built. However I think there were complaints that the goals could not be seen from the back rows of the upper tiers, hence the pitch was shortened to its current size.....
That's nothing, Stan, if you look at Man City's training facilities. In the PL there are three different types of grass used. They have these three different grasses on different pitches. Man City train on the same sized pitch and the same grass before the away game!
That's highly professional and what you get with bottomless pockets. To be honest, I admire that kind of attention to detail. I don't actually expect us to match it, but its one of the frustrations of the lack of progress on the training ground that we don't seem to be trying.
