Yes that's what I said. If either of Davies or Bruce is fit to play, however, then Maguire is on the bench and Figgy isn't needed.
Robertson does his best work in the oppositions half when he is attacking , that's says it all for me. I am not labelling him a poor defender , far from it but we must utilise him as an attacking force and allow him to bomb up that left at every opportunity and take away some but not all of his defensive responsibilities.
It's not as if we have a choice. We're missing our four most highly rated midfielders, our most solid CB and potentially two other CBs. Close to £30m on the treatment table or the naughty step.
I agree with this, I think Brady is marginally better in defence than Robertson - also, having watched the Newcastle game yesterday I think Robertson could have a field day against Sunderland's right hand side.
Obviously HBA isn't exactly flavour of the month at the moment but he's still technically our player isn't he? I've only named 6 subs there, so unless both are fit to play then Figgy will have to be on the bench.
In my opinion Robertson is a proper modern day full back. His best attributes are definitely going forward, but as he becomes more experienced I think he'll improve defensively.
I'm confusing myself now! My original point stands - if they're both fit he's not needed. Ignore my mistake at the top of page 2.
I agree - I think his best marauding is done from a deeper position. Brady, meanwhile, is better suited than Robertson to tucking in and helping out Meyler/Quinn in the trenches.
Assuming Davies and Alex Bruce are both injured... McGregor Rosie McGuire Chester Figgie Elmo Ramirez Quinn Robertson Jelly Hernandez The madness of Figgie inclusion is that he is better in that defensive role than Brady and/or Robertson. If that's a bit too much of a stretch to throw Figgie straight back in there, and one of Bruce/Davies is available, I'd go for a back four of... Chester McGuire Davies/Bruce Rosie
I get you now - the way they went off at the weekend I'd be surprised if either play though, so I expect to see Figgy on the bench. He always looks at his most dangerous when he's paired with Brady and Brady just slows the play down a touch to wait for him to overlap. That led to a goal coming in one of the European games (I think it was Trechin), and I couldn't understand on Saturday why he didn't bring Robbie on. Brady also has more tricks and flicks up his sleeve which can be useful when it's a bit tighter further up the pitch and has his goal threat as well.
Six points from the next two games ? ? I know it's Christmas but !!!! When was your last win ? Merry Christmas from the 47,000 who will greet you on Boxing Day !
I had no idea Bruce was injured. Seem to remember him running off the pitch when he was subbed. Robertson is one of our best crosses . I'm baffled to see his end product being questioned. But then I find it odd when people say it about Elmo and Quinn too, who are also very good crossers.
Can a mod merge the 17 Sunderland threads we have going on please? I'm sure I've posted in three different places in the last hour ha! Thought I was losing my marbles wondering where my post had gone, then realised I'd been posting in different threads.
Oh for sake not again, what's our winning record in games he's started now? It was bleak when someone posted it earlier in the season and it certainly hasn't got any better. But it's okay, he had a good game against Suarez once you know
