This sums up what it feels like to lose a local derby

Taking off a midfielder to put on a striker is a bold move by a manager wanting to win the match.

Taking another midfielder off to put on another striker struck me as frankly reckless. There's a reason not many sides play 4 - 2 - 4.

As for the game over all: we bossed the first 15 minutes, they bossed the next 30, the second half started fairly even, we pressed to the last 20 minutes, they controlled the 89th minute which was the only one which actually counted.

If their strikers were better they could have scored 3. If their keeper hadn't been in good form we could have scored about the same number

You did, if Newcastle had won 1-0 I would have said we got lucky. A draw would have been a fair result. I meant Newcastle need to learn what they are doing wrong in Derbies to have lost the last 4, especially when prior to yesterday we had probably had our best run of form since Bobby was manager.

I honestly believe Sunderland deserved the victory yesterday. We played the game for the most part like complete ******s, they played as an organised team.

I was watching the game with two mates yesterday, both neutrals who don't give two s**ts about either teams. After the first 15 mins when we looked semi-ok as the game progressed they both pointed out the organisation went to the dogs. Comments like 'What f**ing formation are you playing?', 'Perez is too isolated' and 'Alot of your players are losing their heads out there'. They said the midfield bar Sissoko were very poor. Everyone was laughing at Sammy who I thought was c**tin disgraceful yesterday. Gouffran was a non entity. Colback bar a decent spell in the second half let the occassion get the better of him giving away stupid fouls. Tiote was the liability he always is. Say what you like about Cattermole (I hate him) but he is no where near the reckless spanner that Tiote is.

Throughout the game though they were both commenting on the defence. Oh they mentioned Colo but not in a negative way, they were both shouting 'Where the f** is the other CB and LB to help him?' and I agreed. Dummett and Saylor abandoned their positions so many times yesterday I lost count. Saylor got injured because his s**t play gave Sunderland that chance in the first place. You see throughout the match Colo constantly checking the left because he knew Dummett was either not there or simply wasn't up to the task.

I think alot of the overseas players get stick for not being up for the derby but every home grown player bar a decent cameo by Armstrong was so f**ing poor it was unbelievable. Alnwick being the least offensive of them.

I know in the return game we won't play half as well as Sunderland did yesterday and lose again. We already know that outcome long before it happens.

Sammy was awful, poor first touch, lost possession, really poor decision making. Dummett was just invisible.

Tiote was decent. He did what he needed to all afternoon, filled in for Janmaat loads, broke up the play, didn't lose possession anywhere near as much as Sissoko, who seems to be getting lots of praise for a 30 yarder, when he missed our best chance, shot wide with a woeful left footed effort when we were well placed and consistently ran into trouble and gave away the ball. Sissoko's best contributions were when we started hoofing it up and he could at least win a header.

Colo was atrocious, it was actually pretty nigh on 100% his fault that caused the moment that lead to Saylor's injury. He let the ball run across him and bounce in the box, and then he let the player get enough space to get in a cross.

Really surprised nobody has mentioned how well Gouffran did. Him and Perez were the only ones that looked interested for a good portion of the game. He closed down in Sunderland's half, nobody else bothered.

Think Sammy is getting an unfairly rough ride. He got to the byline several times and got a cross into the box - - not his fault that the box was empty half the time. Also made some space for himself and got off a decent shot on goal. He had several poor touches but not enough to stand out from the rest of the team. Don't understand why people would single him out for criticism when Tiote and Taylor were on the same pitch, as well as Cisse and Cabella towards the end.

Gouffran in the first half wasn't at the races at all. He came out and did slightly better in the second half. I won't condemn him as much as Sammy. He was doing his best (or worst) impression of his brother yesterday. He was utterly awful throughout the entire game. He did some ok crosses in the second half, then again there was no ****er in there which can't be blamed on him I suppose. His touch though was terrible and he is so one footed it is unbelievable and to any decent defender he is very predictable. I have never been as frustrated watching a player since f**ing Shola.

Armstrong was no better. Got into decent area but produced **** and wasted our best opportunity through greed/over-exuberance. Had he squared that ball for Sissoko, we go on and win.

You do realise if Perez gets injured they'll start playing Sammy upfront? <laugh>

Indeed, hence I included the words "over-exuberance" as an excuse. End of the day though, it doesn't matter if he is 17 or 35, he is on the field of play and it was an error of judgement. A costly one.

I totally agree with that mate and should have added it to my post. I knew after that (along with the Perez effort) we going to end up losing. Age aside just square the ****er. I know he is young and wants to score in a derby probably more than anything but Christ better to pass and let some other bastard score than lose the game.

To be fair, I doubt it was costly. Least Armstrong got the shot on target. Sissoko already missed an identical situation in the match completely!

True. To be honest he scuffed that shot first half too so badly, it made it look like not much of a chance. It was a very good opportunity. Perez likewise. He looked lively but his shooting boots were somewhere else. He only connected with one all day! Then that 10ft 8in giant lent over and made it look good.

I really like Perez. He's inventive, I think he's going to be a really good player. That moment he took it away from the two defenders in close proximity was Bergkamp-esque. His shooting was a little rushed, I think he's being coached to get off first-time shots to adapt to the pace of the league.

As I say, I thought Gouffran played well yesterday. He rolled Vergini with class in the first half, kept the ball in play numerous times from ridiculously **** passes, closed down Mackem defenders, and looked a threat when him and Sammy switched wings. Unfortunately whenever he got into the box, the cross went nowhere near him.

    Much more promising performance!
