I don't buy this sack the manager talk and bring in a new manager. We have to let the new players settle and find a new team dynamic. People seem to think they have the solutions when ultimate responsibility does not rest with them. Rodgers has tried to change some of the solutions have worked others haven't. He is trying but the pace is slow. Yes Rodgers has made a few mistakes but to write off a team with 17 matches gone while missing the main goal scoring threats from last season is a bit short sighted. Performances are slowly improving while some much maligned players are finding form i.e. Markovic and Lallana. Others will soon follow. It seems last season did raise the expectations of some fans to levels where we thought we are equals to Man City and Chelsea. Last season seems to be the norm for some fans and they have chosen to totally discount the other seasons where we were average. People also seem to forget other teams have spent and gotten better. I'd rather stick with Rodgers and hope this hard and lean period has given him the experience to deal with challenges much better. He is a talented coach and 17 games of poor form is not going to change that.
Very good post by Lamborini and I agree. If De Boer is available, then we must go for him ASAP even if we're mid-season. Rodgers is incapable of accepting help, incapable of coaching a defence.
Why do you have an inclination towards De Boer Jimmy? The way I see it he has one of the better sides in the Dutch League so I'd expect him to have some form of success. This is the same league that McClaren took an unfancied team and won the Dutch league with. I just don't see him as an upgrade.
This confused me too. I could only make sense of it if Jimmy meant we could bring in de Boer as an assistant. Assuming we're talking about Frank, I can't see why he would be interested in that, never mind BR's hostility to the idea.
Haha was only messing. Ajax had not won the league since 2003 before De Boer came in. He came mid season and ended up winning the league. He then went onto win 3 more titles consecutively. He promotes youth, plays attacking football and is tactically superior. He is also known to be ruthless with players. His performances against the big clubs in CL show you that he has built a team which has a lot of potential. McLaren is actually a very good manager who was harshly treated by English media. Not only that - he is a big name. A name that players recognise, which is crucial when attracting them.
He was **** for England and gets lambasted for it at every opportunity. However, its not just that is it? He was also **** at Wolfsburg and Forest too. He did alright with Boro in his earlier days but other than that, his achievements have been in lesser leagues such as Holland and the Championship.
Well Ajax rise has also more to do with the weakening of PSV who were a more solid team when they were in the CL when compared to Ajax and their period of dominance. Still in that drought period they still managed to finish 2nd in 4 occasions. There is a big difference when managing Ajax as compared to Liverpool as now there are like 4 teams with better squads. Ajax may be patient but based on how some fans have turned on Rodgers, he may be in the same boat come 2 or 3 years. If Madrid were to bottle the league and lose early in the CL ,I wouldn't mind them getting trigger happy and firing Ancelloti. Now that is a box office manager for me. That is remotely going to happen though.
Winning the title with Twente is a big achievement. He won LEague cup with Boro and got them to Europe. Not to mention his time as Fergie's number 2. The man is actually a very good manager IMO and his career was ruined by the poison chalice that is the England job.
As I said, he's also had three very bad managerial experiences. Plus, the achievements you highlighted are great but not exactly breath taking either.
Fair points. However, he has achieved a lot more than Rodgers in his career and his inexpensive team play better football (all round i.e. in terms of defending and controlling games) in both Eredivise and CL.
Not at all. Its true I don't like Derby but I like Man Utd and Chelsea even less and manage to appreciate their players and managers etc. I simply don't rate him, much the same as I didn't rate Balotelli prior (and still) singing him. I wanted Derby and Forest to go up with Leicester last year btw. I always want to see the midlands sides do well and I'd like them in the PL as it makes for better banter around these parts of the world for me
Getting Boro to a European final was a tremendous achievement. He's a brilliant coach McLaren, but he's not necessarily a great manager. He'd be an ideal man to work in a DoF framework as it'd play to his strengths.
