Is there an appetite for another Cup Prediction competition this year? If you would be interested please say so below and provided there are enough of us I will do something
I would be interested in doing the predictions but I feel doubling the points each round does not give credit to those who predict the most correct results. I agree points should go up each round but I suggest by half not double. Or do like in th WPL and give bonus points for each round e.g. 100 for best, 50 for second best & 25 for third best. I feel this will take the lottery effect out of the final winner and skill will prevail.
Morning Charlie. I appreciate what you say but I think Leo has it right. The league will be a fair reflection of skill across a season and identify the best predictor across a season (as my late winning run will demonstrate), but this is a cup competition and is not won in the first round. The number of games and so points available each round would effectively diminish under your suggestion so the earlier rounds would be more important than the 5th, 6th round, semis etc. it would be mathematically possible to win the competition earlier if the points don't mount as Leo has it. Being verbose was never a problem for me.
I did better in the World Cup one than the regular league, so will certainly hope to repeat the effort.
Thanks for the feedback Charlie - it is always good to have different opinions. What I tried to achieve was that each round offers a similar number of points 320 in each of the first two, then a couple with 400 and finally two with 500. That way nobody feels that a poor first round or two means they are "out" of contention. I truth I also suspect that with 32 and even 16 fixtures in the first two rounds we will give less attention to those - and luck will play a greater part in the early stages. If the bonuses you suggest were adopted I think it could all be over by the end of the fourth round. The last time I ran it this way it was a very close run thing at the end so interest was maintained.
