Ok guys I know we will be biased with this however a quick run down of the clubs. Southampton. Once a fully established premiership club had a few downs and more downs in recent years due to owners of the club (wont go into that to much). 32,000 stadium and newly back into the championship. New owners but unsure of amount of cash available. Excellent youth system with a new long secured future. Norwich. Again a side who like us had to go down to League One to get where they are now, 27,00 capacity and usually sell the majority in season tickets even when in League One. Back in the Premier League and alot of money now to throw around. Semi decent academy. Leicester. Same again dropped into League One but bounced straight back! 32,000 capacity pretty much like ourselves and huge financial backing i.e Sven as manager and the players they are snapping up. Unsure of youth policy although cant be great due to activity in transfer market. Brighton. Always (well recently anyway) been a League One side who have had a couple of promotions to the 2nd tier but did have a awful stadium (not their fault). Now have a new stadium 23,000?? And Gus Poyet seen as a god to their fans. Youth system again not a great idea of. Maybe some fans of the clubs mentioned if they read this can correct me if I am wrong on any point We were all supposed to be after Mackail-Smith as were West Ham but for obvious reasons I will not include them as they speak for themselves. As a player why do you think he chose Brighton over the other clubs because I dont think it was due to wages and sorry Brighton fans I dont think it was ambition. Hope I dont get blasted for this just interested in views seems everything else is all still quiet! Cheers guys!
Why are we included in this, we didn't even bid for him. West Ham and QPR pulled out and Brighton matched Leicesters bid. Norwich pulled out ages ago.
i'm pretty sure we didn't make an offer this summer, we had a cheeky bid in jan turned down, and i think we lost interest. i am puzzled why cms didn't go to leicester or west ham though
I did mean to say interested at some point...... sorry! Also who knows we didn't bid from him unless your a insider Lambden! Jeez!
Because we ended our interest in January, plus Barry Fry and Darren McAnthony have given interviews stating the positions of the various clubs who did bid for him, us not being mentioned.
If he chose Brighton over Leicester and West Ham, I would assume he fancied the set-up more. I would imagine he would get a lot more games and, I gather, Poyet said he'd build the team round him. I respect someone who doesn't just chase the money.
I presume he chose Brighton over Leicester and West Ham because he saw the space vacated by Murray and he wanted to be a part of Poyet's plans. There probably wasn't much to chose between the money and he seems the sort to put professioal pride quite high on his agenda. Fair enough if that's how he rolls.
Meaning we only got taken over recently and who knows now how much money we actually have to spend cause I don't do you?
I would guess that we had ample money for League 1 and quite good money for the Championship. It will be the money set aside at time of purchase...I can't see that ML's daughter will want to throw money at us. Nicola would have to present her with a good business plan. NC is trying to get a balance between spending when we need to and what we can afford. Getting into the Premiership will cost but bring big rewards. On the other hand, I don't think he is a huge risk taker..which we should all be grateful for.
Well you could say that with most teams in the world, minus Man City. Cortese has backed Pardew and now Adkins so far - money is not an issue. Adkins bids for who he wants within reason.
