Liverpool XI: Jones, Toure, Skrtel, Sakho, Lucas, Henderson, Markovic, Coutinho, Gerrard, Lallana, Sterling.

Substitutes: Mignolet, Enrique, Lambert, Moreno, Manquillo, Can, Borini.

Same team as it was against Bournemouth, aside from Sakho in for Lovren. I'd have played Borini in place of Couthino.

All in all not a bad team, but I don't know what the **** Can has to do to get a game over Gerrard, who has been awful.

Odd team again by Rodgers with a back 3 and Henderson and Markovic at WB again.

Arsenal are not Bournmouth and this is a gigantic risk. I'll judge after the game though.

The lack of recognized wing backs is a big gable.

right. in short we should lose by 5 r 6 here cos if we play 3-4-3 there is no f'n way arsneal won't rip us up down our elft side and frankly if rodgers isn't changing it at 20mins or wrse leaving ti while we sink i'll be shocked

be ready to be wummed lads... david brent deserves it

It definitely is. I hope it pays off, but I don't think it will to be honest. After the first 10/15 minutes of us trying to press, we'll start becoming complacent and will get completely molested down the wings.

This is how I see the formation:

    ---------------------jones----------------------
    ----------Sakho----Skrts----Toure------------
    Hendo-------------------------------------Mark
    --------------Gerrard-----Lucas---------------
    ------Cout------------------------Lallana------
    -------------------Sterling----------------------

Could do okay as we should be quick, fast pressing. But it is odd.

    - 3 at the back?
    - Hendo & Mark aren't wing backs.
    - Why not Moreno who is qualified there? Mankiller?
    - Gerrard and Lucas in defensive area rarely works.
    - Why not Mark up where Lallana is?

I would never have predicted this line up a year ago!

Gerrard and Lucas is the poorest combo.
Henderson looses all positive influence as a RWB.
Henderson at RWB stinks of playing Gerrard just for the sake of it. Gerrard does not fit in that team.

    Completely agree.

Gerrard has become the elephant in the room.

Rodgers bottling it with Stevie as he has so much influence.

Gerrard imo can only now play behind the striker for 60 mins, or come on for last 30 behind the striker.

He can be really useful there, but dm he just gets run round, and as you've said - including him just moves everyone out of their preferred position to accommodate.

    Bizarre.

Hoping our attacking intent overrides these problems.

The team isn't bad but I would but Henderson where Gerrard is and Manquillo in at RWB.

The knives are getting sharpenned with this team selection! If we don't get a result here which very likely, rodgers will be slaughtered.

    Agreed.

Rodgers needs a big win for his own confidence, as much as the teams.

Why not play Moreno and either mankilla or Flanagen as actual wingbacks. Henderson in the midfield to close down?

Gerrard and Lucas terrify me in the middle, surly aresnal can just waltz down the middle of the park and directly penetrate a questionable defence? I would play Henderson in the centre for his energy and possibly play Countino/Gerrard further up (playing as a creator). I'd keep Lallana in the side for his energy: With arsenal it is all about midfield energy.

I know Everyman and his dog has commented on Jones as GK. But I just wanted to add an extra "face palm" for that particular decision....

  15. Yep, that's the team IMO.

Arsenal should be looking for revenge on last year by winning by at least three. I'm sticking with my 0-2 prediction though.

Thinking about it I'd prefer Can in the midfield to Henderson but either of them before Gerrard.

Lucas will track runs but Sanchez will eat us alive

If they don't get 5/6 we will be lucky

For me this is all about how long Rodgers leaves it 3 at the back

I'd even drop Henderson rb and sahko lb at the start here and hope are denial are confused but if both so called wing backs go forward we are going to be destroyed

Chambers is a weak link for them he hates being attacked at pace.

  19. Why pick a eleven with a plan in mind to immediately change it? Surely, what you mean is you'd have picked a different team?

  20. Lets hope Sterling and Markovic run at him then :)
