Why are we so bad at them? Do we ever even cause teams problems with a set piece?

We seem to think we're quite good at them. Every time we get a free kick on halfway its everyone in the area and punt it forward. We aren't a big strong side, it never works, we never even win a header in the area.

Yes. I would fine any player who doesnt beat their first man from a corner a weeks wages. That free kick Aluko took on the right touchline, weak as piss.

We many not be a big side but we were giants compared to Swansea. Davies used to come up and look dangerous at corners last season, this season nowt.

What about throw ins?? Robertson took one in first half injury time. No one came to him, no responsibility again. He throws it back to Davies who sells Bruce short and they nearly and probably should have had an effort on goal. This from our throw in on the edge of their box!!

We don't seem to get the results from 'set pieces' that we do in 'open play'. From goal kicks Elmo and Jelly win their fair share but unfortunately nobody knows where the ball is going to finish up. It is another failing that we have and I think a lot of my fellow posters are finally seeing that we have nothing up front. Two goals from ten games says it all.

The throw ins we take are awful all game there is no movement we just either throw it down the line to lose it or throw it to Livermore who couldn't find a man. To be fair to Aluko Ramirez did it numerous times as well....

Ye i think he did 3 on the trot in the first half. Brucey seems to have put a lot of trust in Ramirez. Took that ****ing awful free kick second half anarl.

Do we practice corners? I dont see the warm up but surely your corner taker should practice 10 from each side before the game. Thats what i used to do.

It clearly wasn't the strikers yesterday. I'm a big critic of Hernandez but neither of them had out to work with yesterday. We were appalling in possession and created nothing.

Corners are ****e too. Either too long, too low, or we can't beat the first man with the ball. If we avoid relegation this year, it will be a feat almost on a par with the great escape.

I agree with you regarding possession, of which I believe we had 57%, and if I hate anything about the 'modern day' game it is 'possession football' and 'closing down'! Both of these can be overcome by players who have ball control and know how to 'dribble' and beat their marker - we have neither. Brady (sometimes) does this 'Bernard Mendy' style of football where he has to show that he can beat his man rather than get the ball moving. When he and Robertson eventually get it together they could make a formidable pairing.
Elmo was incisive in the Championship but is up against the best defenders in the world in this league and his game has been much negated. Still puts in a shift though.
Our strikers are way below par at this level. I don't know who 'scouted' Hernandez and Ramirez but they certainly did not do their homework. Jelly just avoids the cut but he needs someone up front who can take on the defence and get a few shots in as Jelly is just the man to pounce on loose balls and put them away.
I have high hopes of a January Window incursion where we can get a couple of hot-rods up front. Do you think that's why Steve was clarting around with Jose at the Chelsea game in the hope of getting a loan-in?

Steve Bruce is a genius - he adopts hoof-it tactics whilst simultaneously telling everybody they'll die if they dare venture into the opposition half*

We are good at defending set pieces, but unfortunately are no good at scoring from them.
