Stupidly I bought the Christmas cheese today. So I'll be drinking the Christmas port with it a bit later, and buy some more next week.

May even get a Christmas cardiac event in before Christmas.

Me too, got a nice Stilton last week and polished off a bottle of Ruby Port, which these days I think I enjoy more than the greater aged Tawny varieties. I think my next bottle will be a Ruby LBV - excellent with nuts too, that I also bought last week (need to keep the blood pressure with Christmas approaching!). Watch out for the gout too! Just remember (as my Dad taught me at a young age) to always pass the port decanter to your left at the dinner table.

I believe that the Christmas fare should be spread out over a longer period. It always was in our household since my birthday is Dec 16th (pork pie & smoked salmon), my parents wedding anniversary was Dec 20th (brace of pheasant), Christmas morning early breakfast consisted of a side of Ham, another Pork Pie, Potted Meat, Crusty Bread and of course Beer that everyone, even us kids, consumed to wash everything down, then traditional Turkey dinner & Pudding, later a marzipaned iced fruit cake for tea, plus a chocolate log cake, plus leftovers, then another brace of pheasant New Year's Eve. I recall on Boxing Day we always went for a long walk in the countrytside to work off all that grub!

We were not a particularly religious family (good old C of E for the official record), but all decorations had to be down by Twelve Night (Jan 6th Epiphany) or it was apparently bad luck.

Bump.....this hasn't had an airing for a couple of months and what with all the stresses of the last week it's time for some quaffing plus it's Friday....what's not to like?

Tonight I shall be having a couple of snifters of Bushmills Irish Whiskey pre dinner, just to unwind you understand.....

Well, it's Saturday morning .............. I've just surfaced after a long self inflicted guzzle the night before.
Hope I didn't say anything silly or offensive to anyone on here late last night. If I did, I wholeheartedly apologise and take it all back.

    I didn't ? ...................... ok, good.

Some of you good folk keep mentioning various types of port for which I'm always interested in.
I tend to lean toward a nice brownish tawny port for which has a nice rich lasting flavour with a mellow after-taste.
Very rewarding if I do say so myself.

Speaking of leaning ................. I haven't got a single drink in my hand yet I seem to be favouring my left side, funny that!
    Enjoy your night!
