Many thanks Stroller, I already had a feeling you would also have a really impressive list to share mate!

This is why I was curious and had to ask. I was not born until 1975 so I missed out on what is my fave recent period in music, sort of 60's to early mid 80's.

Don't get me wrong, there are still plenty of good bands and music these days but that period was a golden one. If I could just get my hands on a time machine.

EDIT: Also some good music in the 90's too!

All I can say now is you lucky sods, I'm jealous.

What makes me a bit sad is due to the commercialism of the recording industry, they will not take a chance on or sign any new creative bands or musicians!

Everything has to be a radio friendly unit shifter or manufactured into the current whats in and selling trends!

You're listening to the wrong radio stations then pal!

There's plenty of good stations either online, or using the "Tune-In" app on your phone, plenty for all tastes. I listen to XFM, Amazing Radio and a couple of other stations which only play "indie" music - much better than the sh1te that Radio 1 and Capital vomit out

    Cheers!

We don't often have the radio on where I work, too many grumpy people but I do like BBC radio 6, no adverts and not heavily play listed. In fact the music policy is a bit like John Peels old radio shows, just random and mixed up, just how I like!

XFM is very good but they would not tolerate that where I work sadly.

Here's a bit of Alphaville. I wasn't particularly keen on them when they had a hit with 'Big in Japan' in the late eighties. However I did a tour of Canada West Coast to East Coast in the late 80's with a cousin of my wife's and she was a huge fan of them. I had to listen to their album constantly.

The group gradually grew on me, and this song... 'Forever Young' still resonates with me some 30 years later. I still find it a bit weird that the Alphaville wrote this song whilst being so young and are still performing it 'live' nearly 30 years later. It was also covered by Laura Branigan who had a hit with 'self control'in 1984. It's so sad that she died in her sleep at such a young age from a brain haemorrhage. This was my first holiday with the lads abroad... ( A bit like the Inbetweeners ) And Laura Brannigan's song was ubiquitous at the time along with Grandmasters White Line's and Frankie's Relax.

    Alphaville 2013....

And the lovely and so tragic Laura Branigan who sadly left us too early...

Just watched this, from the 1992 Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert at Wembley

Mick Ronson's last concert (he died of liver cancer the following year), but even ill he still has it all here, fantastic guitarist.

XFM is my preferred radio in-car, a good mix of old and new.

If you listen online try The Arrow, one of XFM's sister stations, it's a bit more rock-orientated: http://www.thearrow.co.uk/

And there's always good ole Planet Rock: http://www.planetrock.com/

My 6 year old son has just told me his favourite song ever is Run-DMC "It's tricky." Proud of him, at least it's not some Disney song by numbers pish.
