Do you know anyone who has ever claimed to be a source? Where do these people live? what are their professions? Do they even know the subject of the story? Why do they live in anonymity? Do they function in the same way as other human beings? For only 50P a month, you can protect these valuable journalistic tools from cruelty, and prevent them from being revealed. The less gossip mongering the better. And to think i wanted to be a journalist...
Haha! This is superb Cowboy! Such antiestablishmentarianism is worthy of any self-respecting anarchy. Congratulations. P.S. My 'ex' was/is a journalist and some of the crap she wrote in order to satisfy her paymasters made my stomach turn. Unfortunately it is the way of the world - the western world and most certainly our country (U.K.) - that the media perpetuates the position of those who control it. You can't ask Joseph Goebbels but you could ask Rupert Murdoch (at least in theory…
I see the NotW is involved in another phone hacking scandal while it's owner gets control of the media. Sources believe the 2 aren't coincidental.
Oh stop being co cynical, and lighten up a little. It talks about the way journalists try to justify their "sources" even though they probably don't exist.
I'm not being cynical. I'm being pedantic. I'm wondering why, when we have an off-topic discussion group, a thread that has nothing to do with F1 is being posted on the F1 board? I agree with your opinion and, given the abhorrent revelations about the NotW's standard operating procedures, I think it's worthy of discussion. Just not in the F1 forum.
It covers Journalism as a whole, including F1. I wrote it in reaction to the Benderson BBC blog, so it does have motorsport ties. He talks about unnamed sources and i'm sick of it. Unnamed sources means that the writer is making up the story. If i'd given information, i wouldn't stay anonymous. It does have a motorsport angle, so i respectfully disagree with you saying that it's off topic, in my opinion, it's on topic.
And I ask again - really? Where is there any reference to F1 (motorsport in general has its own board, incidentally, but then I don't see any reference to motorsport in general either) anywhere in the OP or even in the rest of the thread? Journalism as a whole is not F1-related. Journalism in F1 is F1-related, but we already have a thread for that.
Cowboy: It is true that you made no reference to F1 or motor sport, or indeed any other sport! I get the impression that you assumed that others would know what provoked you to write it (and I did of course), but to be fair to Genji; he's absolutely correct. I'm not bothered personally, since I see no harm being done here, but technically it is not 'F1' but 'journalism'.
