Xavi doesn't have pace, Pirlo doesn't have pace. Cairney could be moulded into that kind of player.

They are exceptional players. As in, at their best, top 5 players on the entire planet. If Cairney had half their talent, he wouldn't ever have been in our youth team in the first place.

I agree that Cairney's more of a Premier League player than he is a Championship one, but not at Liverpool. Wigan or Fulham, maybe, but not Liverpool.

    1) Central midfield. Based on what I've seen I'd say he'd be best in a 451 (like you played under Benitez) as one of the 2 withdrawn midfielders playing the Alonso role alongside someone else doing Mascherano's tackling and giving him the ball with plenty of time. If you're playing 442 which I think you're pretty likely to be doing with Suarez in the team I don't see how Cairney could ever play. Gerrard would be an automatic starter in the middle and there's no way you could play the two of them in the middle and not either be seriously lacking any midfield pprotection for your defence, or have Gerrard's game destroyed by making him play box to box instead of as a proper attacking midfielder.

    2) He was very good in the PL games, start of last season though he just seemed to get slower, lazier, and softer with every game he played.

    3) Yes, subject to the formation discussed in 1).

Doesn't matter though, it's 2+2=5 because of the friendly.

The fact is financially the friendly is worth pretty much **** all. A complete sellout with only adults in the crowd is only £250k. It's preseason so a sellout would be a surprise, and at least half of the crowd will be kids so we'll be lucky to break £100k.

A friendly is usually arranged because the two clubs can't agree on a fee and the gate receipts are used to make up the fee for the selling club without actually costing the buying club more money. If we're unable to compromise over £100k on top of the fee for any player in our first team squad that Liverpool might want to buy I'd be amazed. It's either one of our kids (Clark) or it's connected to us signing a youngster (think even on Ayala it's not a make or break figure) from Liverpool either permanently, or on loan with a dispute over the loan fee (Gulacsi a possibility as we need a keeper, if we're prepared to pay £300k for the season and you lot want £400k we'll give you it with the friendly attached kind of thing).

How do we know that Cairey hasn't taken on board the critisism leveled at him since ast season ?
He has people around him who can see his faults more than we can. To dismiss a player so young imo is foolish in the extreme. Also disagree that he is slow.Hes just not fast. And that gives us something different straight away.
Besides, who do we have in the middle that is fast ? Or better ? Harper ?

I do agree that the lad got a little bit carried away with the bright lights, and would rather check his hair and clothes than train hard and put in a hard tackle or two. But is it not the clubs job to nurture young talent ?
We wouldn't even be talking about Tom so often on here if so many hadn't seen that the lad has class !

He is a fantastic player who will captain England in the near future...

liverpool should offer us 15 million and we might just let him go for that amount....

Tom was okish in the premier nothing special, I dont think he is Liverpool type player, he also has been critised about his attitude in training, and some times appeared uninterested in the championship. I agree with the poster that he looked a lot better etc when George was along side him, so who knows with the right mentor to bring the best out of him and a change of attitude ,and youth on his side anything is possible. He is a nice lad and I hope he does well for himself wherever that may be.

Cairney needs a big kick up the arse this season, never mind going to Liverpool. The lad has got ability but he is lazy, surly and loves himself. It needs someone like NP to sit him down and knock him off his big high horse. We then may just get a player.

He's only played for the U21's, so he could still play for England.

At least he could if he was a better footballer.

Edit: Sorry, I forgot we were talking about England, he's probably good enough already.

Can't believe no ones mentioned his missing foot. Cracking left foot, takes alot of time on the ball though as that's all he has. Anyone who was at Coventry away last season had a prime example where he was layed off beautifully at the edge of the box for a right footed half volley but tried to switch it on to his left and got closed down.

AGREED. Dalglish is losing the plot and his fight with Liverpools owners for more cash.

Unable to get Charlie Adam in yet is just one of many problems he faces.

As for Ton Cairney going to Liverpool ?? UTTER RUBBISH. More chance of Lionel Messi
lining up for the Tigers against Blackpool.

Max Clark to Liverpool ? Oh really. Maybe there are posters who really have been out in the sun far to long this summer.

The Liverpool game is nothing more than a Pre-season Friendly game. Both clubs need it pure and simple.

That would be why we told Grimsby we were cancelling the game with them because we were playing Liverpool "because of an impending player transfer between the two clubs" would it?

More to with the gulash kid Gulacsi coming to City than one of ours going out. Come on be real.

But the Ayala deal still looks the one imo.

As above mate. But lets face it. Grimsby away or Liverpool home ? Not much of a choice is it.

But a word to the wisee. Messrs. Suarez - Lucas and Gerrard all out of action until August. Still worth it though.
