As mentioned in another thread, I'm really pleased with his level of development.

I've been excited since I noticed him slotting in set pieces for England.

Reports on saintsweb of a coin thrown at Alderweireld by the away fans and striking him on the shoulder.

    If true, I despair.

Wouldn't surprise me. Was a lot of animosity at the final whistle.

Fans booed the players, Toby came over the ad boards and gave a shirt, before raising his hand and mouthing 'sorry' over and over.

JWP also gave his shirt away, and Long came to clap the fans and apologise. Aside from that, the players stayed near the centre circle and were booed.

    Fonte looked absolutely distraught.

Some of the reaction to this is at least as embarrassing, if not more so, than the performance. Yeah we were pants. We'll be so again. We'll also be great and get results you don't expect.

It's called football ffs...what did you expect!?

Credit to SU for beating us. Now onwards. As someone intimated before, we got high, then we believed our hype. We just got low, we'll recover. It could actually be the best thing that happened, mentally, to this team. Let's wait and see.

I know in theory if you take applause for winning, you should take boos for losing badly...but people shouldn't go overboard. The team did not want to lose...they need encouragement. I have never booed Saints...and believe me there have been some dire times.

I have to say that Toby's gesture has really impressed me. He's only on loan but made the most effort to go over and apologise to the fans. Well done Toby. Fonte on the other hand really should have gone over as captain.

Maybe Fonte should have, but I think he is being an excellent captain. Remember the summer? His was one of the first voices to come out from the clouds.

Oh yeah, he's been a great captain, just thought he should have gone over to the fans but I'm not going to make a big thing of it.

I high-tailed it out the ground, the moment the ref blew the final whistle. I didn't boo, but the first time I have not stayed to applaud the players.

I wasn't there, and might have been tempted to boo, but surely Jose's interview made up for not approaching the fans? That was statesmanlike I thought.

nah. I wasn't happy, but I had my 13 year old son with me and you know Tom, that it is important to me that I behave in a sensible, adult manner while watching football with my son <whistle>

So, let me get this straight - if we won the FA Cup would you settle for a single fist pump and applause as your son would be there? Or would you make a complete and utter fool of yourself like everyone else and go absolutely delirious? :D

I was well pissed off with our dire team effort at Bramall Lane but i didnt boo our guys either, nor have i ever. As much as i was upset by our team i was well impressed with the effort put in by the Sheff Utd team. Its football and we will be back.

Not wishing to bump a depressing thread, but thought that this belongs here.

Sheffield United have been fined £4,000 by the Football Association for failing to control officials in the 1-0 win over Southampton in the League Cup.
Blades first-team coach Chris Morgan was sent to the stands following heated exchanges between the two benches after Marc McNulty scored the winning goal.
Saints boss Ronald Koeman refused to shake hands with Blades counterpart Nigel Clough at the end of the match.

"I shake hands with people who have respect for me and have respect for the fourth official.
"The behaviour of Sheffield United's bench, I never saw that before." Ronald Koeman

A lot of words spoken about being gracious in defeat, but Sheff Utd need to learn a thing or two about how to behave when winning.
