Please don't take anything I say too seriously, I'm no expert! But I imagine they will have to set up and staff a Mayor's Development Corporation for the project, send out specifications for what they want (may have these already), invite tenders, evaluate tenders, award contracts and embark on the legal process of securing the land. How much depend on the HS2 development decisions and when these are taken I'm not sure. If that doesn't happen I guess the whole project has a question mark, though the area is a dump and needs developing even without HS2. None of this sounds speedy to me, but it will be quicker than doing it through 3 Local Authorities.
Somehow I think Boris will be naturally drawn to dealing with international business tycoons like Mittal and Fernandes rather than a second hand car dealer, even if it is the biggest in the world. But I'm sure due diligence will be followed.
Funny you should say that SB because TF and PB felt very confident about all this as if it had already been sorted.
On the topic of developing LR. I seem to remember a structural engineer on here saying that in order to build up you also need a certain amount of room to build out too.
There was certainly more room available back in 1928. Interesting when we moved from Park Royal to Loftus Road that we brought a grandstand with us. Loftus Road http://www.stadiumguide.com/loftusroad/ Key facts Club: Queens Park Rangers FC | Opening: 1904 | Capacity: 18,439 seats History and description Loftus Road was built in 1904, but it was only in 1917 that QPR moved to the ground. QPR brought one covered seating stand from their previous ground at Park Royal, and the rest of the stadium consisted of open terraces. Unsatisfied with their ground, QPR moved in 1931 to nearby White City Stadium, but soon moved back to Loftus Road. In 1938, a new covered terrace opened, but further changes were few in the next decades. In the early 1960s, QPR once again moved to White City Stadium, but moved back after one season. Loftus Road got its current shape in the late 1960s and early 1970s with the construction of the South Africa Road and Ellerslie Road stands, lifting capacity to about 35,000. In 1980 and 1981, the two stands at both ends were rebuilt. In the 1990s, the stadium was converted into an all-seater, which reduced capacity to below 20,000 seats. Between 2002 and 2004, Fulham played their home matches at Loftus Road while Craven Cottage got renovated. QPR is currently investigating a move to a new stadium, which they want to built at a different location in West-London. No concrete plans have been unveiled yet. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
Chances are Boris won't be there in 5 or 6 months time as he plans to stand as an MP again, ready to position himself for a shot at the Tory leadership.
He's said he'll serve out his term as Mayor to May 2016 even if elected an MP. I'd agree he might not be 100% focussed on it though, even as a West London MP where he'd have an obvious constituency interest in the development. It is hard to imagine him being Mayor, an MP and leader of the Tories.
So basically Tony has about 5-6 months to get this in motion, mainly getting the compulsory purchase order (even if Cargiant challenges it in court, just having it in place would be key).
Reading up on it, it sounds like its going to be full steam ahead quite quickly for the management company. Boris is in place until 2016. If he gets elected as an MP he'll do both roles for a year. Hopefully that's enough time for Tony to get the deal done and signed up.
Told you a long time ago that this was going to happen My one and only piece of ITK that i have ever posted and thats because it came from the highest source. Sit back and watch it unfold.....BUT..We MUST stay in the Prem for it to go through...
Ultimately having a nice new stadium would look a little silly with us in the championship, but ultimately the stadium will make money for the owners regardless of what division we are in. The project as a whole will make billions. So I'm sure it will go ahead regardless of our position.
No mate, in earlier discussions at a high level, it was stated that we need to be in the Prem for this to work for us as we wish. i didnht ask why that was but just rest asssured it was way up the food chain.
Queens is this your way of telling us that you taught Boris to ski and you've remained best mates ever since.....
Interesting. What is not clear, from what you say, is whether relegation this season (with subsequent promotion again) would put a serious dent in these plans or whether it would be an inconvenience which is what Fernandes' line has been previously. Assuming that relegation is to be avoided at all costs for the plans to steam ahead, I am very surprised we are not setting our sights higher than Defoe, Crouch etc. It looks like it is going to be a busy January for Harry.
